The hotel is in a good location in Yoshinoyama Senbon. The price is a bit high during the cherry blossom season. Breakfast and dinner are included. The room is relatively large. There is a wash basin, toilet, and shower room. There are male and female baths for bathing. The stairs are a bit high on each floor. It's a bit scary to go up and down the stairs.

I stayed here during the Golden Week of 2024. The historic main building is quite tasteful, but the tatami mats are worn out, and the maintenance and cleaning are not good, so it is dusty. The bathroom is shared, and it is not cleaned well, so the stench of urine stones is unpleasant. As for the food, the Nakais did not work well together, and they argued in front of the customers, and the arrangements were poor, so the rice was served late, and when I asked for it, they forgot, and then the two of them brought the rice container. I could not eat calmly. I can feel their sincerity, but I get the impression that they lack customer service skills. The food was not so good, and I wonder if they had lined up the sea bream sashimi early on? It was loose, and the food looked good, but it was ruined. The solid fuel for the pot and the grill did not last long, so I had to ask for more, which was a disappoin**ent. I wonder if they did not try it before serving it to the customers? It's just a shame. The breakfast grilled food was topped with cooked fish and fried egg, and it was my first time to see it cooked using solid fuel. The food at dinner and breakfast was not particularly elaborate, so it was not worth the price. When checking out, I was charged the full amount, even though I had paid in advance by card. I pointed this out and everything was fine, but it was a pain to the end. The garden appears to be of historical value, but it did not seem to be well maintained, so I refrained from visiting. There were other issues, such as the vending machine not working properly, but that's all I have to say. I do not recommend it.

Awfully expensive, considering the hotel (downfall), the room and furniture (shabby) and the bathroom (cheaply refurbished and not very clean). The dinner was not a treat (very, very fat pork). The breakfast was good. The service was poor, mostly because non-English-speaking waitresses tried to avoid contact with non-Japanese-speaking clients.

This was my 6th visit to the Ryokan. And somehow my older review does not appear anymore. Time for an update. When I accompany family members and friends for their first visit to Japan I always choose this place. Admittedly back in 2008 the service was a bit more refined, there was more staff, it have been hard times for the hospitality world, and the great pine tree at the small onsen also died. But the total experience is still wonderful. I ask for the retoro rooms : in the old building. May be a bit noisy if you have bad luck as the walls are paper thin. No private bathroom as was standard in the old days. But beautiful painted sliding doors, view of the garden and the (endless) mountains behind. During peak cherry tree blossom season this year (2023) there was additional staff that was fluent in English. They made every effort to adjust for one the party members who had trouble with food he was not used to. And then there is the village … Take your time. If your budget allows is stay for at least two nights, better even three. Make sure you explore thoroughly : even the valley next to the main temple : go down all the stairs, enjoy th

I booked 3 rooms this time. One of the rooms was dirty, toilet smells very bad, and a tea cup still contain residual tea, probably from previous guests. Other than that, the location was great to explore around Yoshinoyama.

Pleasant stay in this ryokan. The concept changes from sanitized hotels and you can discover a bit of traditional habits: sleeping on a futon, super thin walls, a very sober and *****ped-down style. The ryokan is quite isolated, I only met people there who spoke Japanese. It's clean and the comfort is satisfactory and it's an experience to live during a trip to Japan. It’s a shame that Western customers don’t behave in a way that’s entirely appropriate to the place, especially with regard to noise…

The location was very nice, surrounded by nature, and the room was spacious, but there was a problem with the cleaning of the room. 1 A piece of cotton dust with hair tangled in it was left in the middle of the room. 2 A parched colored contact lens was still attached to the lid of the trash can in the bathroom. 3 A surprising amount of dust had accumulated in the tea jar tray of the first tea set. I hope you will be careful. The service and a**osphere were okay.
