Chikurinin Gunpoen

The hotel is in a good location in Yoshinoyama Senbon. The price is a bit high during the cherry blossom season. Breakfast and dinner are included. The room is relatively large. There is a wash basin, toilet, and shower room. There are male and female baths for bathing. The stairs are a bit high on each floor. It's a bit scary to go up and down the stairs.

I stayed here during the Golden Week of 2024. The historic main building is quite tasteful, but the tatami mats are worn out, and the maintenance and cleaning are not good, so it is dusty. The bathroom is shared, and it is not cleaned well, so the stench of urine stones is unpleasant. As for the food, the Nakais did not work well together, and they argued in front of the customers, and the arrangements were poor, so the rice was served late, and when I asked for it, they forgot, and then the two of them brought the rice container. I could not eat calmly. I can feel their sincerity, but I get the impression that they lack customer service skills. The food was not so good, and I wonder if they had lined up the sea bream sashimi early on? It was loose, and the food looked good, but it was ruined. The solid fuel for the pot and the grill did not last long, so I had to ask for more, which was a disappointment. I wonder if they did not try it before serving it to the customers? It's just a shame. The breakfast grilled food was topped with cooked fish and fried egg, and it was my first time to see it cooked using solid fuel. The food at dinner and breakfast was not particularly elaborate, so it was not worth the price. When checking out, I was charged the full amount, even though I had paid in advance by card. I pointed this out and everything was fine, but it was a pain to the end. The garden appears to be of historical value, but it did not seem to be well maintained, so I refrained from visiting. There were other issues, such as the vending machine not working properly, but that's all I have to say. I do not recommend it.

Very special experience

Pleasant stay in this ryokan. The concept changes from sanitized hotels and you can discover a bit of traditional habits: sleeping on a futon, super thin walls, a very sober and stripped-down style. The ryokan is quite isolated, I only met people there who spoke Japanese. It's clean and the comfort is satisfactory and it's an experience to live during a trip to Japan. It’s a shame that Western customers don’t behave in a way that’s entirely appropriate to the place, especially with regard to noise…

There was a vacancy at the inn I wanted to stay at, so I was happy to be able to make a reservation and visited. It's a good old building with a long history, so I think it can't be helped that it's old, but it's a bit difficult to use the retro room because the toilet and washbasin have to go out into the corridor, and I felt dangerous going up and down the steep stairs in slippers. The public bath is down a long flight of stairs, and there are not many handrails in the bath, so to be honest, I can't bring my elderly parents. I sat down at a table with a name in the large hall, but the waiter was too busy to greet me, take my drink order, and there was no water or tea. I stopped the other person and ordered a drink, but they delivered it to other tables first, doubled it, made a mistake, and the chair was not prepared. Declare. You can tell by looking at how busy and understaffed they are, so the customers at every table did not raise their voices, and although they were a little irritated, they waited quietly for about 20 minutes. People who can't get their drinks, can't start a pot without meat, can't eat anything with a gas canister, and are left without a welcome greeting or explanation of the food. I can hear whispering voices here and there saying there is no one, and at the end of the day I hear excuses such as ``we don't have enough people...''. The seasoning of the meal was the most delicious, so it is a disappointing word for the customer service that ruins the special dish. I had the famous Rikyu hot pot, but after I finished eating the hot pot, only white rice and pickled vegetables came out in a large bowl. I felt that it would be nice if there were options such as diluting the soup stock in the pot and making it into dashi chazuke, or dissolving raw* into rice porridge. There are various things, such as the location of the bus stop that several staff members answered was different, but personally, I felt lonely that I wanted at least a little greeting and a light farewell when I checked out. .
