"Great location: short walk from the train station and the centre.
The room was basic, but the bed was comfortable, and A/C was working well- especially useful for heating after getting soaked in the rain, exploring the city.
Cleanliness could be improved - the sofa had visible wet stains, the carpet had a wet patch, and the shower could use a deep clean.
Unfortunately, the rooms are not sound-proof, and we were woken up by kids running and shouting on the corridor.
Breakfast is complimentary, but the hot cooked part tasted like cardboard. Pastries were lovely, and coffee was decent.
The team was friendly and helpful.
Overall, an okay hotel for a weekend away, nothing fancy."
"We were a family group of 4 adults and 2 children , each room had a double bed and a good size sofa bed. The beds were comfy although the sofa beds were a little firm but were for the children who were happy with them. We requested rooms close together and they were next door to each other, facing the front of the hotel so with the road outside. The soundproofing was good and we did not hear much noise from outside. The air con was excellent and nice and cool. The bathroom was good with a large step in shower, and complimentary toiletries. Breakfast was included and there was a good selection to choose from all very good quality. The waffle maker was an added bonus!! The location was very good, not far to walk into the centre and very close to Tesco local for any extras you may need. We bought a few drinks as there was a handy fridge in the room. I would dedinitely stay here again."
"Although it feels like a very old house, it's been beautifully maintained! The house is absolutely stunning! All the furniture, bathroom fixtures, and hardware are of high quality. The towels are incredibly soft, so I loved them. It seems to have been renovated. (Before moving in, I was worried about the lack of cleanliness and darkness in old houses, but there were absolutely no issues here.) The breakfast was also excellent, and the staff were very nice."

"Excellent stay here, great quiet location on the river within easy walking distance to York City centre. For the money the room was top notch big plus points being a great shower, kitchenette with fridge and the rooms own iron and board .
Staff also a pleasure to deal with, allowed us to store our luggage both before check in and after check out so we could enjoy some time in York.
Genuinely can't fault this place, and great value for money."

"Very elegant old-style villa, the breakfast is very rich and delicious, the stay is also very comfortable, and the cost performance is super high! York is very quiet, and the people I met along the way are very friendly. I couldn't swipe my card in the public toilet on Butcher Street, but a local brother saw that I swiped his card and let me in. Thank you for being such a good person! This time I traveled by myself, my English was terrible, but the experience was actually quite good, haha, I recommend everyone to stay and play~"
"It was a good stay.
The hotel did run out of hand wash and shower gel in the room. Upon asking for a refill I was told they ran out of hand wash but brought in 2 tiny shower gel tubes instead.
The card on the bed was dirty and had blotted stains of what I think was food.
Should have changed it as it was placed on the bed.
The hotel itself is very beautiful though and we didn't have any other issues there."
"Not far from the train station, after a large parking lot, the room is very clean, there is a TV in the room, you can watch Youtu, the bathroom is also very large, there is a bathtub in the family room (1 big bed + 2 small bed), the hotel service is also very good, we checked out and left the luggage at the hotel, and took it in the afternoon. It's also very convenient."

Great
GGuest UserAn adorable hotel in York, I booked another night because we loved it and wanted to relax.
It’s just a short walk away from the main old town Centre, wasn’t a problem even in the rain.
Very clean and quaint decorations, love the 4-poster bed and the towel warmer. Also provides bathrobes, slippers and even a complimentary snack room. We could go grab some chips in the middle of the night if we wanted to. We didn’t eat, but we had some cocktails at the bar downstairs and coffee in the morning. Service is great.

GGuest UserLocated right next to the train station (look for the York Tap and there’s a steps-free entrance right next to it), this historic hotel offered me the best hotel accommodation experience. Lovely breakfast and afternoon and drinks. The room is temperature controlled and you can stay cool in the hot days!
JJess BrowningFrom the moment we arrived at the hotel the staff couldn’t be more friendly and helpful. The bunker room made for a unique and comfortable stay and loved the little touches like the KitKats in the room on arrival. The only small complaint would be the shower head sprayed out, the whole bathroom floor to become soaked, but nothing major at all. We’ll definitely be back and recommending to to anyone staying in York.

GGuest UserThe Galtres... A perfect place to stay in York. Location is great, central, surrounded by pubs, shops, bars, restaurant, a few steps from York Minster, couple of minutes walk to the Shambles, 13 minute walk from the train station.
Our room was spotless, checking in was easy, arrived 3 hours early, but room was ready so accessed that straight away. Little bit quirky, I guess no two rooms the same, old fireplace, massive mirrors and a Wimbledon wicker basket at decor.
Breakfast was amazing, gorgeous food, great selection and waiting staff always happy to help. Didn't eat there at other times, but the restaurant always looked busy inside and out.
Two minor faults, could have squoze a small dressing table/desk into the room, and be prepared for a small amount of noise in the morning with delivery vehicles around, not a big problem though.
I would definitely visit again, and recommend anyone visiting York to look at this place as somewhere really nice to stay.
AAnonymous UserGood location, short walking distance into town. Room size is comfortable for two pax. Broken shower was not informed to us when checking in. Had to shower over the bath that had no showering curtain, this made the entire toilet wet and potentially slippery. It will also be inconvenient if someone is unable to climb in and out of a bath easily.
Towels were not provided, requested via the QR code. However, after waiting awhile, we had to go down to lobby to remind the staff of our request. It was then promptly addressed.
GGuest UserHotel is situated right opposite Clifton tower and is conveniently located within. The city centre - walking distance to the Shambles and other attractions. The parking situation is problematic - although aware it is first come first served, there is nowhere available to park up and ask except the three spaces in front of the hotel and if taken, you end up circling the road for an absolutely age before a space becomes available. If no parking on site end up parking over the road on public car park which is inconvenient as keep having to work out when to renew. The cleanliness is a slight issue, we thought there was dust on surfaces but more likely to be cloth fibres from the cleaners but still don't expect shedding like this. Room was fine but did think bathroom was on the smaller side for a double deluxe room. Service in general was good - couldn't really fault.
GGuest UserHotel was located across the road from the city walls. A 5min walk to the University of York St John. The amenities at the hotel were excellent. It had a small gym located opposite the main reception where guests had 24 hr reception. There was parking available on site at a cost of £25 for 24hr parking. May be cheaper elsewhere but it was very convenient. Staff allowed us to park for extra few hours free of charge. Although we did not pay for breakfast on site it was very well stocked and wildly used by other guests. Room was clean and modern. The A/C was not that affective and did not cool the room down. Which made it a little uncomfortable to sleep at night. It was a hot day and the room was located in a loft conversion. Heat would not normally be an issue.
GGuest UserIt's an older Holiday Inn. The cleanliness was good, though the bathroom was incredibly tiny, and the elevators were showing their age. The front desk staff were great, and they offer free luggage storage. A crucial tip: when taking the bus from the train station to the hotel, make sure to tell the driver your stop beforehand, otherwise, the bus might easily skip it!
GGuest Userthe breakfast and man running it was amazing, we were stunned with the amount of thought that went into us, even though we didnt pre-book.
only fault was that we didnt realise it was a pub (our fault) and it stayed open downstairs for 3 hours past closing time! we didnt sleep well as i think there was some sort of hendo which was very irritating
GGuest UserNice country house style hotel conveniently close to York for Travelodge money (or less), but definitely a cut above. The room had an iron, ironing board and even a Corby trouser press!!
