Unfortunately, on both check in and check out I was told by the receptionist that their system kept crashing meaning both took much longer to do than it should. This was frustrating, but these things happen. The real issue is the smell of the cosy rooms to the rear of the site. We had 3 rooms booked (51,52 & 53) for us and friends and we instantly noticed the strong odour when walking into the rooms. we quickly realised these rooms backed directly onto the rear of The Viceroy Indian restaurant. The odour from the restaurant kitchen has ingrained into the furnishings of the rooms. I recommend you avoid these rooms when staying at this hotel.

A 10-minute walk from York Minster sits our home in this noble city. The remains of the Roman walls are close to the hotel making this treasure of a place to explore entirely walkable. History is everywhere and so is superb shopping dining and drinking.
The building is a Grade II Listed Regency townhouse of extremely stately proportions and head-turningly good looks. Inside the high ceilings and original features are joined by the kind of things we like to share with our guests. Pantries stocked full of treats for the taking great restaurant food throughout the day delicious drinks from the bar a spa centered on bespoke therapies and a straight-from-the-heart welcome.

An adorable hotel in York, I booked another night because we loved it and wanted to relax.
It’s just a short walk away from the main old town Centre, wasn’t a problem even in the rain.
Very clean and quaint decorations, love the 4-poster bed and the towel warmer. Also provides bathrobes, slippers and even a complimentary snack room. We could go grab some chips in the middle of the night if we wanted to. We didn’t eat, but we had some cocktails at the bar downstairs and coffee in the morning. Service is great.

This was a nice boutique hotel and great location - 10 minute walk to all the main sites. The breakfast was lovely with a selection of pastries, muffins and cereals as well hot food to order from a menu. The room was large with lots of space to move around and the bed was comfy. Great shower too and you get free welcome chocolate which was a nice touch.

Good location, short walking distance into town. Room size is comfortable for two pax. Broken shower was not informed to us when checking in. Had to shower over the bath that had no showering curtain, this made the entire toilet wet and potentially slippery. It will also be inconvenient if someone is unable to climb in and out of a bath easily.
Towels were not provided, requested via the QR code. However, after waiting awhile, we had to go down to lobby to remind the staff of our request. It was then promptly addressed.

Very pleasant staff on check in.
Parking free and could spill into Toby Carvery car park next door with no fear of being stung for parking charges.
Room had everything we needed and was accessible - hairdryer attached to mirror.
Places to hang towels on walls. Plenty of hanging space. Spacious shower and Dove toiletries.
Comfy beds.
Excellent breakfast.
Staff were brilliant. Dealt with spillages efficiently and with a smile and tables were cleared promptly.
Only negative was decor was perhaps a little tired.
Perhaps a key card entry to access bedrooms although reception was 24 hour.
Would recommend 👍

I looked up York Hotel on Ctrip and accidentally stayed in this treasure hotel. From the appearance of the entire hotel, the lobby, the corridor, to the room, everything is impeccable. The breakfast is also great. You can choose from a variety of types such as full English breakfast, which is cooked to order. I really love it. I am willing to come to York again for this hotel.

Excellent hotel in a great location just outside York City Centre near the racecourse (shirt bus ride into the city), the room was well maintained and nicely decorated. Maybe a fridge would have been useful (looks like ours had been removed). Breakfast excellent and swimming pool very nice for a relaxing break.

Absolutely beautiful hotel in a great location, 5 minute walk from the city. Inside the hotel is amazing and quite grand. We choose a garden view room which was a bit small but the view was amazing, all the way to the minster. Breakfast can get a bit busy as the area is small but it was nice.
The spa was lovely but again small and can get busy.
Overall a beautiful hotel in an ideal location.

AAnonymous UserVery lovely hotel. We love the building and the room and the outside view from our room. Love the coffee machine in our room. Everything feels luxurious. This is the only hotel that provides bedroom slippers throughout our UK trip.
Room with big bathroom is nice. There is a famous restaurant inside the hotel. Lucky to get a table without reservations.
Paid parking at the hotel is a bit steep. Other than that, all good.
HHades-SamaIt was a good stay.
The hotel did run out of hand wash and shower gel in the room. Upon asking for a refill I was told they ran out of hand wash but brought in 2 tiny shower gel tubes instead.
The card on the bed was dirty and had blotted stains of what I think was food.
Should have changed it as it was placed on the bed.
The hotel itself is very beautiful though and we didn't have any other issues there.
GGuest UserMy daughter and I stayed in a twin room for a night while we visited York University. The Hotel staff were warm and welcoming. They were kind and helpful and more than happy to let us leave our luggage there as we were too early for check in. The main lobby area is just like it looks in the photos. There is comfortable seating, a bar and a place to get food. The rooms are clean, comfortable and feel new. The whole place felt modern and fresh. It was a 15minute taxi ride from the station and a 5/6 minute walk to The Shambles area in York where there are loads of restaurants and cafes. I literally have nothing bad to say about it. We will be back to stay again hopefully in September.
GGuest UserAs usual lovely and clean. I used to be a cleaner, so I know which bits to check. All the chrome was lovely and shiny in the bathroom. Only 1 complaint about the breakfast.....NO COOKED TOMATOES and I love them on a breakfast. So I was very disappointed that I was tomatoeless. There have been cooked tomatoes every time I've stayed before.
RRanditoWe arrived late at night. The receptionist was still there to greet us. It was a nice stay. We enjoyed the night. The continental breakfast was succulent.
GGuest UserGood location (turning corner is the cathedral) but it is a hotel attached to the restaurant, so I waited for a long time when I checked in. No one at the counter rang. No one waited for more than 10 minutes. Others were waiting. There was no elevator. I helped to get it up (4th floor) Check out and wait for no one to hang down by themselves. It took a long time for someone to check out. Living in the attic is a bit cold. The quilt is not warm enough. The spare parts are good.
PPing ShingHotel Reception has very good service. We are arrived at the hotel early but the reception also arranged hotel rooms for us, so felt that the hotel service was very good.
For other thins is the hotel room is a bit older but the room is clean. Overall has good service and hotel. Thank you
Aangels247Online check in wasn't working new system issues but that was ok. Very friendly staff. 24hr reception, menu etc. breakfast prices need updating as they are £8 not £6. Light help yourself breakfast pastries toast, cereal and coffee. Nice spacious dining hall. Plenty of communal areas to sit and relax and the bar is a great place to meet and chat to people. The stairs were a challenge after a long day for me but rooms comfy. Curtains around beds give you good privacy. Trinity church over the road has lots of history and worth a visit. Regency Chinese is a great place to eat a short walk away. Close to the walls, station, city, bridges etc.. great for sight seeing. In a quiet part of the city. Loved my stay. Would stay here again. Great value.
GGuest UserMy family and I visited York during the Easter holidays. We stayed the hotels for 3 nights and so far we were satisfied with the accommodation. The family room is quite spacious for the four of us, clean and tidy. The location is excellent and close to the river. Friendly staff as well. The only thing to be disappointing is that the two single beds are rather small for teenagers /young adults. Hope you find the information helpful.
GGuest UserHotel is situated right opposite Clifton tower and is conveniently located within. The city centre - walking distance to the Shambles and other attractions. The parking situation is problematic - although aware it is first come first served, there is nowhere available to park up and ask except the three spaces in front of the hotel and if taken, you end up circling the road for an absolutely age before a space becomes available. If no parking on site end up parking over the road on public car park which is inconvenient as keep having to work out when to renew. The cleanliness is a slight issue, we thought there was dust on surfaces but more likely to be cloth fibres from the cleaners but still don't expect shedding like this. Room was fine but did think bathroom was on the smaller side for a double deluxe room. Service in general was good - couldn't really fault.
