My time at the Mahari was fantastic. The staff are very attentive & always there if you need support. The hotel is very clean & central to the local shop’s & entertainment. The real surprise for me was meeting the fantastic animation team & in particular lamia who made my experience complete.

This one is a little hit and miss- I'll start with the PROS I cannot fault the staff - always happy to help, accommodating and polite. The pool guy is lovely, a little shy at first but soon warmed up to us. The bar staff in the pool bar were lovely and again really accommodating, carried our drinks to the table if we couldn't manage and so helpful. The beach staff were also nice and placed our beds on the beach where we asked. When you check in you receive a card for your towel which you hand into the pool/beach guy and they give you a towel which you need to give back to get your card back, if you loose your card once its given to you, you have to pay at the end for this. The entertainment were good, always trying to get people involved and were always smiling and happy. FOOD - well, the breakfast were pastries, omelettes, crepes, fruits, salads and also some hot food, normally consisted of rice and some kind of meat dish. It was ok. Lunch and Dinner were good, lots of the same kind of foods, eggplant, courgettes, salads, chicken, lots of fish, pasta and home made chips - they had pizzas too which were ok, but very wet and sloppy. No kids food ie nuggets etc but my son is quite fussy but ate the pasta and chips with a side of bread rolls daily. CONS! SNACKS - There was some pizza's at the pool bar pretty much from 1ish and cakes and fruit and then Crepes from 3pm - these were the longest things to be done. Only 1 hot plat works and 4 small crepes can be made at one time, My son waited in line for 25mins one day as someone order 18 crepes. I would suggest if you like these go to breakfast at 9:45 and grab some there as there was always stacks of these at this time. DRINKS! OMG!! I have been to allot of All Inclusive holidays and this by far was the worst drinks ive ever drank, they make the drinks so strong you cant drink them, they taste like petrol - I also ordered an extra mixer with every drink and mixed them together as you just cant drink it. The rooms - even though they were always clean there was a few times no towels were left after the maid had been in - one maid rolled her eyes when I asked for the towels and she walked passed me and put them in the bathroom instead of just handing them to me. But they did always leave little flowers on the bath mat, and one maid would use my pj's to make patterns on the bed, which was quite sweet. The bathroom was clean but there was limescale all over the taps and on the shower head - the bath had a hole which was polyfilled - there was hardly any water pressure and also the temperature of the shower scolded my head it was so hot! Aircon - what aircon! it was just a noise of a fan which didnt blow out cold air at all, at one point it felt like hot air was being blown out. The gym also has NO aircon, I went 3 times and had to leave from nearly passing out as it was sooo hot. POOL - the pool is not as big as it looks, when we arrived at the pool we thought there was another pool

Upon arrival in the splendid lobby / reception you get the feel of something special, we were swiftly checked in and given wrist bands and invited to take lunch while our room was available. Afterwards we were shown to our room via the 1 available lift as the other was broken, it turned out over the week that it continued to break down and a guest was trapped in it one day for half an hour. We used the stairs even to 3rd floor. 4 levels. Anyway the room was large, carpet floor, separate toilet and bathroom, plenty of storage, large furnished balcony and sea view tick. Quickly got sorted and fancied a drink from the described stocked mini bar, NOTHING. Not even water. Had a walk round to get our bearings, private beach over the road bit only free water and coke, bottle of local beer about £2. In general, the food is ok and plenty choice of lamb, chicken, beef, fish in various guises, loved the tagines, however it is the same lunch and dinner every day. Not the best wine or beer. There are 4 bars, main lobby bar, serves beer, wine, whisky, rum, vodka, gin, didn't see a cocktail list, only problem, they ran out of gin on a daily basis by around 10:30 every night, constantly ran out of ice, you had to keep your smallish glass or ended up with a tiny flimsy plastic vending cup. Pool bar served beer and same local spirits and pizza, burgers and pancakes if you were lucky enough to get a seat before the Eastern European force who drank all the gin. Bar near the entertainment and second pool served beer and wine. Don't take your glasses here, we were chased by a waiter one evening who chastised us for doing so. Then the beach bar mentioned earlier. Air con in the room was fine and constantly on even after leaving the room, cleaned daily with fresh towels. Other public areas like restaurant and lobby, the air con wasn't on and you sweat constantly. Entertainment in the evening, miss hotel, karaoke twice, a singer, and a fakir ( lays on nails etc). Sunbeds always available on the beach and plenty shade if you don't mind paying for a couple of beers, watch out for jellyfish, they sting. Otherwise it's the 8am rush by the pool and people put towels on and come back hours later. Would I return, probably not. Taxi to Hammamet 15 to 20 dinar and worth the trip, go round the old medina. Near the hotel is an English managed restaurant called Rovers return, only average and top dollar price also. Go up to the new medina for some haggling for fake designer goods etc and also a good range of other restaurants including a really good burger bar, 2 x gourmet burgers with fries and 2 beers around £15. Weather very hot, too hot to walk about, overall not for us as we like to walk here and there and have a beer but you can't do that here.
