Mid-mountain Cloud & Water Hotel

We have to admit we really enjoyed our stay at this hotel. From the moment we arrived, we were warmly welcomed by our receptionist, Xiaoyao, who was incredibly helpful throughout our visit. He quickly answered all our questions and was always happy to assist us with any queries or issues. His caring attitude made us feel very comfortable, and his excellent English made communication a breeze. Xiaoyao truly made a difference in our experience at both the hotel and in the town! However, regarding the hotel itself, I have to say that the standards were lower than advertised. While our room was nice, modern, and fresh, the pool area needs serious renovation. We noticed missing tiles and poor maintenance. Although the view from the pool was spectacular and we enjoyed using it, those seeking higher standards might find their needs unmet. Despite its flaws, this hotel has great potential, and I believe it deserves outstanding reviews—perhaps it did a decade ago. I truly hope it will be restored to its former glory. Breakfast consisted of a typical Chinese spread, which might not be the best fit for Western guests like us; it would have been nice to have more options. Thankfully, Xiaoyao made us lovely coffee each morning, which added a nice touch to our breakfast routine! We liked the hotel’s location as well, situated a bit away from the hustle and bustle, yet still close enough to explore the main attractions. Overall, we had a pleasant stay, and with a few improvements, this hotel could be even better!

The location for the scenery is why I chose this hotel. I didn’t want to stay in the town and preferred a riverside location. It was very convenient for the Li River bamboo raft ride, and the famous ¥20 photo spot. It takes about 25 mins to walk to Xinping ancient town; it was very hot and humid but you can rent a scooter opposite the hotel or get a DiDi. If there is a road block when you go up from town by taxi, just show yr hotel booking and they will let the driver pass. The staff try very hard to make the stay smooth and XiaoYao provides a very efficient service and did an excellent job, dropping me off to the train station. My original room lock was damaged and he swiftly changed my room for the one next door. He is key to this hotel to ensure guests are comfortable. Now. honestly, the swimming pool is very old and I would not swim in it but it provides an area of fantastic views of the mountains and river. There is also a mirrored floor area you can use for photos. The hotel rooms seem renovated but tired, however, all is clean and air con works perfectly. Breakfast is per tray and there is Chinese tea, lemon water and bottled water available. There are restaurants a short walk either direction from the hotel and you can walk along the river and enjoy the vendors selling refreshments and see ex-fishermen on bamboo rafts with birds, by taking the little sloped paths across the road.
