After the corona pandemic ended, we went on a family trip for the first time in a while, and stayed in three rooms, two Japanese-Western rooms and one Japanese-style room connected to each other, for three generations. [Room] The view of the famous garden is better in the Japanese-Western room, but the view of the spacious Western-style garden connected to the two Japanese rooms is good. Children are also welcome. [Bath] The bath in the room is a normal unit bath, but if you use a special room, you can use the family bath. However, this family bath is old and seems to have been used for a large public bath in the past, so it is not particularly recommended. I recommend the hot spring large public bath at the affiliated hotel, which is about a 3-minute walk away (free for guests). [Meals] Dinner was a delicious kaiseki meal full of Yanagawa's local color. We had a 2-year-old toddler, but we were able to ask for a nice private room (paid) with a view of the garden, so we were able to enjoy our meal without worrying about other guests. The breakfast was also delicious, with local ingredients such as roasted seaweed. [Lounge] Free drinks are available in the lounge exclusively for guests. You can also put a drink in a basket and bring it to the veranda of the large hall to enjoy while looking at the garden. [Visiting] There are guided tours exclusively for guests staying at the inn that are held in the evening. It is highly recommended for those who are interested in history and architecture. In addition, the large hall is open when there are no wedding ceremonies, so you can enjoy the famous garden after dinner or breakfast without being disturbed by outside tourists. [Access] It is less than 10 minutes by taxi from Nishitetsu Yanagawa Station, but if the weather is good, we recommend taking a boat to the inn. If you get a ticket at the boat reservation counter inside the station, you will be taken to the pier in a private car (carry-on bags are also OK). It takes just under an hour to get to Onohana by boat. It is a very nice access while listening to the boatman's tourist information. The last stop is Onohana, so it is a 20-second walk after getting off the boat. [Sightseeing] Onohana itself is the main tourist spot in Yanagawa. Guests staying at the inn will receive an admission ticket to the museum. All other tourist spots can be reached on foot.
