Wonderful stay at Shimaya - Mr Yamuto is super helpful. Rooms were clean and comfortable, nice onsen onsite was nice. Great value stay for the snow monkeys!

Incredible staff, they were so helpful to us in getting to and from the hotel. If you want a unique and truly unforgettable experience I would recommend staying at shimaya during your time at Yamonochi.

Great pick up services and view from the room. It was clean and the owner was very kind and friendly and can communicate in English. Would like to visit once more during winter :)

Because we wanted to watch the fireworks festival and experience the hot springs, we booked a room here. We were greeted by a grandfather. It was a little late and raining when we arrived at Yudanaka. The grandfather came to pick us up. It was very comfortable to soak in the hot springs. Yudanaka should not be the peak tourist season. Maybe we arrived too late and left too early. The road was very deserted and there were not many people.

Wonderful little hotel. If you really want to feel an authentic Japanese experience, you have to go here. The owner really goes out of his way to help all the guests. Very close to the snow monkey's park. An unforgettable trip. Nsgano was amazing

Very friendly host and very cozy accommodation. Everything was clean and orderly.. The host answered all of our questions plus we really enjoyed the private onsen which was a highlight of our Japan trip. We loved that we got a free ride going to the Snow Monkeys :)

This place is a find! Room is authentically traditional Japanese and spacious! Shimaya has its own private onsen simple but nicely done and clean so it added to the character of the place. The owner is very obliging, helpful and hospitable. The ryokan is also within walking distance to the small shops and restaurants/izakayas. Overall highly recommended!

It was a highly traditional experience to stay at Shimaya - a true ryokan. A most welcoming host who spoke some English - he drove guests for free to the snow monkey park in the morning. Good value, simple breakfast, a quiet place. Good selection of restaurants nearby.
