Had an awesome stay at Ichinoyu Katei. The staff were very attentive, the room was great and both the public baths and the baths provided by the ryokan itself were great experiences. Especially the open air rooftop bath, accessible even at night, was amazing. Warm recommendations!

This was my first time staying in this area, but the landlady was very polite and explained everything in detail, which was very helpful. The indoor and outdoor baths were very comfortable, and it was a very satisfying hot spring trip. Dinner and breakfast were also delicious, and I was very satisfied. The location (cobblestone road) was attractive, as it allowed me to experience the atmosphere of a hot spring town. There are nine outdoor baths, and I regret that I was unable to visit them all.

Traditional, quaint but world class service. Room was large, futon/bedding was comfortable, room included private toilet, and ryokan provided a clean, m/w separate onsen on top floor with all expected amenities. We lucked out with a cancellation for dinner so managed to enjoy a multicourse event in the dining room. Well priced, very tasty, and accompanied by lovely service.

Authentic Japanese hotel in a gorgeous village. Serves breakfast & dinner which are both Japanese and delicious. Helpful transport to and from the nearby station. Access to many local onsens provided, as well as those in the hotel itself. No showers - bathing is done in the onsens.

I had one extra day at the end of a business trip, so I took the train to see the snow monkeys. I'm glad I stayed overnight at this ryokan. Excellent hospitality and friendly helpful staff. Gave me ride from local train station to ryokan, and from ryokan to Snow Monkey Park (even better, suggested I leave my luggage at the Roman museum since they noticed that the Snow Monkey Park gift shop had not opened promptly at 9:00 AM the previous day, drove me to the Roman museum, helped me drop off my luggage (no help needed, but they insisted...), and then drove me to the Snow Monkey Park). Large room and excellent food. Fun to wander the streets and try all of the onsen. Highly recommend!

This was my first time staying here. The first thing I liked was that the inside of the building was covered in tatami mats. There are more and more inns like this these days, so as a tatami fan I'm very happy. The food was also of a high standard. I had no complaints about either dinner or breakfast. The bath water was quite hot due to the location. You have to add cold water before you can get in. This might be recommended for people who like hotter water. Being able to visit the outdoor baths was a nice bonus. The outdoor baths were quite hot as well, which was a bit of a challenge... Nozawa Onsen is also quite hot, so I guess the hot springs in this area are quite hot. Even with that in mind, it was a wonderful inn.

I took off my shoes at the entrance, and when I got there, the hallway was covered with tatami mats, and even the elevator was covered with tatami mats. Even my toddler grandson seemed to enjoy walking. Corona measures were well taken, alcohol was installed in the room and various places, and the room and bathroom were well cleaned. Kaiseki cuisine was also elaborated, and the taste was just right and delicious. It was very helpful to warm up my grandson's baby food. The road in front of the inn is cobblestoned, but it's narrow, so when my daughter, who had just gotten her license, was having trouble getting out of the parking lot, the owner helped me out.
