Onsen Quality: Consistently praised for its smooth, viscous, and skin-friendly alkaline water, with spacious public baths, saunas, and outdoor hot springs.(based on 1 review)

I recommend this quiet and clean ryokan. The staff was very friendly and the service was satisfactory. It is a bit far from Fukuoka Airport, but it is a place where you can rest quietly, so I highly recommend it. It is a place I want to visit again.

The best ryokan experience of our 5 day driving trip, certainly a great finale. We drove from Ibusuki to this place, truly great to pass by many ryokans and this property was up a hill overlooking farmlands. Well maintained and kept updated, truly traditional design overall, with a beautiful public onsen baths, indoor and outdoor. Booking with dinner and breakfast is a must, dined like any Michelin starred restaurant, attentive services and warm hospitality from all staffs. I will come back again!

Our lodging for the night, Hanatomitei, was located in the hills, nearly 10km northwest of the center of Kikuchi city. We were greeted by a Japanese umbrella beside the entrance. First of all, the hot spring was great. The alkaline, viscous water is sure to be popular with women as it is said to be good for the skin. The food, too, was cuisine from the mountains of Kumamoto, each dish carefully prepared and delicious with a gentle, comforting flavor. The hospitality of the staff was also very good. This hot spring inn was more than satisfying, and exceeded our expectations for the price we paid.

思い出しました English: On Saturday, April 15th we stayed at the Folk Crafts Harmony Room "Asagao" on the second floor. The guest room lacked an open feeling and was somewhat dimly lit, and the bedding on the bed was worn out, so it wasn't exactly modern, but the good quality of the hot spring and the amazing food more than made up for the negative impression of the room. The hot spring is an alkaline, simple, weakly radioactive hot spring that feels smooth and clings to the skin. The large communal bath and open-air bath, where the water flows directly from the source, are well maintained and feel very comfortable, and the quality of the water is one of the best I have experienced in Kyushu. From the open-air bath you can see the landscape of the green countryside, and there are terrace chairs set up as well. There is also a sauna, which is always well kept and well maintained whenever you use it. We ate both dinner and breakfast in the dining room on the first floor. Each seat is a booth to ensure privacy, and there is also terrace seating. The menu is well thought out and all dishes are served fresh. The presentation was excellent, and the sashimi and salt-grilled yamame trout were both delicious and looked great. The horse meat sashimi, unique to Kumamoto, was also excellent, and the marbled horse meat was of very high quality. Overall, I was very satisfied with my stay and was able to relax. I think it's surprising in a way that there is such a wonderful inn in such a rural area.

I stayed in a room with a semi-open-air bath in February 2023. The large public bath has a high ceiling, and because it is open, it is very cold except when you are soaking in the bath. There are two bathtubs, one with lukewarm water and the other with a high temperature but small. There are many steps both inside the building and in the room, so elderly people should be careful. The atmosphere inside the building, the service of the staff, and the quality of the hot springs were very good, but when I checked out, I found out that the nationwide travel discount was not applicable. Even though I confirmed that it was an eligible accommodation and booked a plan on the official website that said "Now is the time to rediscover Kumamoto," I was told that "It can only be applied if you make a reservation through a travel agency." I think such precautions should be clearly stated on the website. It was a trip with a bad aftertaste.
