Cottage Morinokokage

The room is very large, very clean and tidy, and fully equipped with electrical appliances. The owner of the house is very nice and will give a lot of tips for playing on the island. The yard is equipped with a laundry room, vending machines, and hammocks. There is a large parking space in front of each house, which is very suitable for self-driving tours.

I went there for 3 nights and 4 days in August. I was allowed to enter an hour before check-in because I didn't mind it being hot, but as the innkeeper advised, the air conditioner was not turned on, so it was like a scorching hot sauna inside. It didn't cool down even after an hour and a half, and it was somehow cold when I came back from dinner. Other than that, it was comfortable, and although cleaning wasn't done every day, it was generally clean. The cottages are separate buildings at quite a distance from each other, so it was nice not to feel the presence of other people. Also, it was very convenient that there was a free washing machine and dryer. I didn't want to bring home the sweaty clothes I wore on the Jomon Cedar tour a few days later, but I was grateful that I could wash and dry them on the same day. If there is one drawback, it is that the restaurants are far away. The only izakaya that is within walking distance in midsummer temperatures is "Isono no Kaori," which is about a 15-minute walk away, and the other izakayas are within walking distance, so you have to go by car and you can't drink alcohol... and they are popular restaurants that you can't easily get into unless you make a reservation (it seems that you can also get takeout by making a reservation in advance). We were able to call a taxi on the way there, but we weren't sure if there would be one on the way back, so it seems best to give up on alcohol. Also, the nearest supermarket, A-Co-op (Shopping Center Banchan), had almost no sashimi, so we should go earlier, or if we go by car, there is another supermarket in the direction of the airport, so it might be better to go there. This time, it was midsummer, so even mountain climbing will make you sweat at low altitudes, and the seaside is very hot, so you need to be prepared to play on the beach. The temperature was too high to stay outside for long, so we couldn't use the hammock or BBQ, so next time we go, we'll go when the weather is more comfortable.

Cottage Morinokokage is a cottage located in Funayuki, Yakushima-cho, Kumage-gun, Kagoshima Prefecture. You can stay in an Early American-style house. On April 7, 2022, I climbed Mt. Miyanoura. From the Yodogawa trailhead, drive down to Yakusugi Land. I drove along Prefectural Route 77 and bought dinner at the A Coop Anbou store. I came to the cottage in the shadow of the forest. There are rows of cottages, and there is a parking lot in front of each building. The room I'll be staying in that night is extremely fairy tale-like. Twin room. The interior is cute, like the house from "The Three Little Pigs." The ceiling is open. A kettle and tea set. Apparently cooking inside this building is prohibited. The sink and toilet flush, but they do not have a heated toilet seat. The bathtub is spacious and nice. Equipped with air conditioning and TV. It has a balcony and hammocks are also available. After refreshing in the bath, it's beer time. Sashimi bought at A Coop Awa store. The next morning, for breakfast I had milk and sandwiches that I bought at A Coop Awa store. On this day, construction work started in the morning, and the shaking was so strong that I thought it was an earthquake (sweat). After dinner, I relaxed in a hammock. The owner thought it would be noisy due to the construction work, so he kindly changed the room for me. This is what the room looked like the day before. I stayed in this room for two nights starting from that day. This room has a hammock next to the entrance. table and sofa. Apparently it's the best building in this cottage. There's a shelf next to the bed and an outlet, so I keep it for charging. Mini kitchen and dining table. 2-door refrigerator, microwave, and toaster. There's even a circulator attached to the kettle. I'm especially happy that the toilet has a heated toilet seat. On the other hand, the bathtub has gotten smaller and the bathroom door has gotten worse. It's also a shame that the wash basin has become a unit bath. On this day, I went sightseeing at Senpiro Falls and other places. We returned to the cottage Morinokokage early and had coffee time on the terrace. For dinner that night, I bought a frozen pizza from A Coop since they have a mini kitchen. And the mysterious combination of natto and salad (lol) The next day, April 9, 2022, breakfast was bread rolls, raw ham, and fruit. Just after 4 o'clock, I heard the sound of people leaving for mountain climbing. If you ask in advance, they will prepare a bento for you and put it in the box next to this. On this day, after walking through Shiratani Unsuikyo Gorge, I drove around Yakushima. Back in the shadow of the cottage forest, it's beer time. I bought flying fish sashimi at A Coop. At Shiosai, I ate fried flying fish, so this was my first time trying sashimi. Dinner was gyoza. Tempura. On April 10, 2022, our last day in Yakushima, we finally checked out of our 3-night stay at Cottage Morinokokage. Breakfast on this day was milk, bread rolls, raw ham, and fruit. Cute cottage. With no power lines, we were able to take some very beautiful photos with the mountains of Yakushima in the background, and the sunset and starry sky were spectacular. An independent building where you can leave early for your trekking without any hesitation. The fun conversation I had with the owner also became a great memory of my trip.
