When planning our trip to Gulangyu I had a clear objective in mind, I wanted to stay at Lee Manor. So we splurged a little and book at this very charming hotel built in 1920. Service is obviously top notch and we appreciated the little details like the pick up at the ferry with a bottle of refreshing tea, the suggestions for our dinner spot, the complimentary (and gorgeous) afternoon tea. I was impressed by the facilities, the building itself is gorgeous and all the decor elements are beautiful and well thought. Not being able to go back home in Europe for more then 15 months, this place reminded us Italy and it was a a soothing feeling for us both. A full Chinese breakfast is included in the price and there is an option of bread for Westerners. For that price I would have expected (and enjoyed) a cup of coffee but unfortunately I was told that the coffee machine was broken. The hotel is superbly located and the rooms are very comfortable with all the amenities. Our room was on the second floor, in the old building. The poor sound insulation could be a problem though for light sleepers (or if your neighbors are noisy). I could clearly hear the conversation the couple had in the room next door so I would suggest bringing earplugs for a better sleep.
We loved our stay on the island and at Lee Manor! Thank you very much for the hospitality!
