This hotel reminds me of my stays at 5-star hotels like the Four Seasons and the Ritz. I wished I could have stayed longer than a night. We stayed in one of the chalet types of rooms. You have to swipe to open the gate into your terrace, and then swipe to get into the room itself. Unlike another review, I really found the decor to be nice, not outdated. Maybe the reviewer preferred a more sleek and modern design. I like they, too, but that doesn’t make it outdated. I really like how the top of the door can be opened so you can have access to fresh air. The bathroom was very nice with top to bottom marble in the toilet and the shower. What I didn’t like was there was no door to the bathroom and both the rooms to the toilet and shower are clear glass. There is no privacy, so you have to let whoever stays with you you’re on the pot. The rain shower also prevents the shower door from being opened into the shower, so you have to “force” it to open to the outside. On the plus side, the shower floor was slip-free. The bed was huge and very comfortable with thick sheets. I only wish that hotels in Spain would start installing USB ports next to both sides of the bed like we do in the US. The one thing that this lacks compared to 5-star hotels is the thickness of the towels. Towels below 5 stars in my experience tend to have quite thin towels for some reason. When we stayed there, there was a wedding group staying. They have been a bit loud, but when the stopped their partying, the property is so quiet and peaceful.

The property is huge! But could be better maintained. It is located about a mile out of town, so be prepared to walk down a slight incline into Xativa and up back to your room. The rooms were comfortable but a bit dated and dark. Bed was fine. There was a safe, be sure to ask for the electronic key at check in. Bed was comfortable with extra pillows. The breakfast buffet was about 50 yards away in a glassed in plaza. It was cool while we were there so we could not eat on the courtyard. They served lots of items, pastries, ham, cheeses, fruit and they would prepare some eggs as well. Their cappuccino machine was not working, so coffee was self prepared in a Keurig like device...not too bad actually. Overall a nice place.

I booked this hotel based on it being closer to the castle than staying in the old town. What an excellent decision, the hotel is absolutely gorgeous, set in huge gardens with the most number of citrus trees I've ever seen! I paid extra for a room with a view, we had Room 1 which had a large balcony looking up to the castle with a table and chairs, just lovely. The room itself was spacious, had a separate lounge area with 2 enormous comfortable chairs, so it was nice to be able to sit somewhere other than just the bed. The shower had a rain head and there was plenty of space on the vanity. Room had a small fridge, cupboard and desk area. The bed was comfortable with nice linen and pillows. Breakfast was in a separate outdoor room and was a lovely spread, freshly cooked eggs and a nice selection of pastries, cereal, bread as well as fresh juice and good coffee. Pool area was clean and there is access to a part of the castle walls which form a boundary of the hotel. There is also a large cistern underground, ask at reception and they will organise a tour for you. Thanks so much for a lovely stay! Would highly recommend. It's a shame not many people visit Xativa as it's the most gorgeous town with an amazing castle!

This is a stunning location for a hotel and overall it is well worth a stay. Appreciate that our stay was 'out of season' and still the hotel staff could not do enough for us. The food was delicious and beautifully presented. Breakfast was plentiful with a great variety of food and beverages. Dinner was very tasty and so many courses. Disappointing that the pool was closed during our visit, and we couldn't even sit by the pool as the surrounding grass area was being tended/re-seeded. There were plenty of places within the hotel grounds with amazing views over Xativa and the surrounding mountains, an excellent view of the Castle just up the hill. The tastiest, juiciest oranges were plentiful growing on trees throughout the hotel grounds and a beautiful courtyard to sit and enjoy a glass of wine or a coffee - except you could get neither until the bar opened at 8.30pm! This alone, reduced my score from 'excellent' to 'very good'. We had no mini bar and no tea/coffee facilities in our rooms, and nowhere to get a drink! The room itself was quirky and reasonably clean (a little bit of the previous occupants litter under the bed). The bed was comfortable but the pillows were very hard. I would stay here again, but I would take plenty of drinks with me.

Hotel Montsant is set in an old monastery on the hill overlooking the town of Xativa, a short walk from the hugely impressive local castle. Sadly though, the setting - quiet and secluded but with some spectacular views over the surrounding local countryside - is probably the best thing about the hotel, which we found increasingly disappointing and frustrating the longer we stayed. Having arrived before check-in, we made our way to the hotel restaurant to grab some lunch and having been initially told it was fully-booked (though at that point entirely empty) we were eventually offered a table inside. Absolutely recognise that my Spanish is fairly non-existent, but having ordered (and had read back to us) a vegetable paella for two, it was disappointing to be served with a dish with huge chunks of pork. That said this was really the first sign of a common theme of our stay - a lack of organisation and care at the hotel and sometimes seemingly undertrained or unaware staff. To take another example, we booked dinner that evening at the restaurant, asking for an outside table. When we turned up, we were one of three couples who had clearly had the same idea, and were placed - seemingly at random - on one of about a dozen and half tables spread across the courtyard, with none of the others with table-cloths or chairs, making it a fairly forlorn experience. And again, a dish advertised as monkfish came wrapped in bacon of which the menu made no mention. Breakfast was also a challenge - with all of the grounds and views the hotel has to offer, it's in truth mystifying that they choose to serve this in a greenhouse-type affair with a small courtyard outside, accompanied by the clanking and sounds of delivery drivers going back and forth. (A word here on those staffing breakfast, who seemed incapable of staying on station for more than a few minutes before disappearing into the kitchen for lengthy spells). Our room was fine - if a little tired - with a balcony overlooking the town, but the promise of an 'outdoor' pool was let down a little by there being no furniture to sit or lie on when we first arrived. My wife braved the grass alongside and had a fair few insect bites as a result. In fairness, when this was pointed out, sun-loungers magically appeared the next day, albeit of a fairly insubstantial kind, with no cushions. If all of this sounds like nit-picking, it probably is, but clearly we weren't alone - as we checked out another couple were regaling the (lovely) staff on reception with their own tales of poor or inadequate service. I can't help feeling that the setting here deserves a little more thought and care.

Did make last minute booking, no issue. Had a choice of 3 types of rooms as we were a family of 3. Located near the castle. Nice and clean. Room was big with spare bed (sofa). We also had diner, food was good. The pool is a bit small but fine to cool down.

Gave this an average score, as the rooms and the outside sitting areas and pool need a bit of TLC. Due to the pandemic you can see it’s not been cared for. The hotel staff and food was excellent. The food service was chaotic, as our starters and mains arrived at the same time. There was 6 of us occupying 3 rooms . We all said the same . Saying that the rooms was clean . The outside areas are lovely to walk around . Our friends daughters said the bottom of the pool was very gritty. Surrounding the pool is bare grass and soil. Hence why the bottom was gritty. I would return if it ever gets a makeover. I thought 130 euros for a double room was pricey .
