Extremely rude and lazy bar staff, asked for a glass of water and the old man had a tantrum, very trashy place. When someone asks you for some water have some respect, it’s basic decency, if you can’t do that don’t work at a bar or in hospitality.

Good points ..safe parking, location just off the motorway, famous mattress so good sleep. Bad points…tired worn out rooms, almost non existent Wi-Fi , although like being back in the late 90s so okay, if you are nostalgic to what Wi-Fi used to be like. Disgusting attitude of a manager, rude, sarcastic and unfriendly to anyone with a Southern accent, although noticeable extra polite to those Travellers with Northern accents. Stayed here in the past, however surprising how one person can make a nice place a bad memory. I’m pleased I’ve use social media to show a much wider audience, my conversation with this manager.

Only issue was bell not clearly visible or well positioned on reception to call receptionist. Placed on wall at end of reception desk next to entrance door to restaurant with very small sign on wall. Both bell and sign at the time of our visit were fully obscured by an advertising sign placed on the reception desk. Bell would have been better at front of desk to be clearly seen when approaching desk. Otherwise, room, food, staff all very good.

DO NOT COME HERE IF YOU ARE BLACK OR A PERSON OF COLOUR!!! I would give it 0 stars but i cant so I would give it a 1. The treatment that my family and I received compared to every other guest was appalling. We were not rude at all, we said our pleases and thank yous, we greeted everyone with smiles but they were never returned and there was no bad behaviour from our side that warranted this behaviour beside from the colour of our skin. At the restaurant every other guest was greeted with ‘Good Morning, are you alright? any allergies?’ and smiles meanwhile we got greeted every time with ‘Room number 😐’. We were never directed to a table we always had to find our own, we were also never given menus we were always told to grab one from the staff table. Every other person in the restaurant was served at their table and regularly checked on however we got told to come up to the bar for them to take our order and we never got asked how everything was going and if we needed anything extra. The main perpetrator of this hostile environment was the old lady with pink hair. The selective rudeness, the rolling of eyes whenever we came into the restaurant and the STARING. That was also a major issue, it was as if she had never seen a black person in her life, the way she was staring at us felt like we were in a zoo. In addition we got a family room but the third bed wasn’t set up despite booking well in advance, the walls are so dusty, I woke up to my luggage and clothes covered in thick dust, and there was only one towel in the room. As other reviews said the air conditioning didn’t work either and cleanliness overall was just not great. We were also provided with half a roll of toilet paper and whenever we would want to complain to the receptionist and ask for more, they were never there. The service as mentioned was horrible there was never anyone at the front desk. When we entered the room we wondered why the light was broken until one day I was sat on the bed and something hits my head and it is another light shade that fell off and broke. They are also heavily understaffed, it would usually be one person running the entire packed restaurant. The only positive part of this place was the breakfast was quite enjoyable, the food was hot and it was quite delicious. Also there was this waitress and her name was Jemma, she was one of the only staff that treated us nice and like everyone else. Other than Jemma, this place is a hell hole for anyone who is a person of colour.

Hotel was convenient for our needs close enough to the motorway we could travel to Manchester and Liverpool. Really friendly welcome and the food in the restaurant was lovely. Staff we met was attentive and was quick to please. Children was very happy with the story books they received.
