Absolutely loved today in this lovely pub. I took my family and friends here today and everything was perfect from the staff to the fabulous thai food. It’s the thai food that keeps us coming back at weekends here amongst the lovely relaxed atmosphere. This is a break from the norm visiting this lovely establishment. See you again for the next thai feast next week.

Thank you Rick My two sons and I were delayed 10 hours in Paris during the world IT outage and we were exhausted so needed a place to stay when we landed in the UK that was going to be easy to travel home from. My husband was travelling from Marseille also so I didn’t have his card details when I called the Emmbrook. I could tell the owner was cautious about reserving rooms with no payment but he still did it for us. We were given the door code and the keys were left in our rooms. To have that level of trust is so very appreciated and rare. The bed was really comfortable and the shower was so powerful. There was tea, coffee, toiletries and a TV and fan in the room. It’s not a 5* hotel obviously but I chose it because for £150 we had TWO rooms and the teens had their own single beds. Oh and the breakfast was great! Far better than any chain hotel. A good old fashioned hotel with a good old fashioned ethos. Thank you again L🕊️

Our second year staying at the Embrook Inn as a base to attend Ascott. The rooms whilst simply furnished are very clean, comfortable and the shower has real power which is great. The lane it’s on is quiet and when we stayed we joined the locals for quiz night and on our return from ascot they had Morris Dancers. The pub itself which isn’t attached is great. You feel at home, they do a great English breakfast and the evening food is great too. In short for the money it’s a little gem and we will be back.

I won't be returning Pub is empty. Floor is sticky. No food despite website having a menu. According to the old guy behind the bar, chef is no longer there. According to one local, they had a good couple running it who have now been sacked although none of the locals knew why. Apparently the food was great and both were lovely and popular, which is possibly the cause of their sacking as no one has a good word for the landlord or the old guy behind the bar. Hotel was basic. Rust in bath. Shower head doesn't move. Mattress was like a punishment. Carpet was filthy. TV barely functional. Noise from room above of a couple arguing. Says it's a short walk to the local train station -its a 25 minute walk at least. It may be cheap but there's a reason. Doesn't look good for this place.

Updating my review due to recent bad decisions I previously wrote about it being good that the pub had started to listen to customers and had a better menu that was more reflective of locals and what we want. I had also enjoyed the new manager bringing in events to the pub. So why has this all stopped? The woman who has run it for months and was making changes that we all liked, gone. We've got the old one back. The one who stood by and wrecked it before. Not sure if the last one had enough or was sacked. Depends on who you ask in the bar. One staff member said they were sacked at Christmas. The other said it was a "mutual decision". Staff all seem to have gone too. Kitchen is shut. No idea why or for how long. The way this place is going us locals don't care because we won't be returning. Just as this place, our local, started to feel like our local again. The operator doesn't care. Greene King should sort this place out. Why let a good team leave or sack them? And if they were all sacked, why? This place needs to be taken on by someone who actually wants to see it do well. That is not the current person. We all said we liked the new team so he removes them. Shows the lack of respect this place gets.

Stayed as a hotel guest as I was on a works visit. I've stayed in Wokingham before, usually at a famous chain hotel, unfortunately due to the last minute nature of the bookings that hotel wasn't available. I found this one via *********** and I'm very pleased I took a chance on it. What a great place! The rooms may not be the most modern, but they are warm, functional and are ensuite, for under £80 a night, that's great. The pub next door, well, what a great place. Excellent atmosphere. Friendly staff who didn't just serve me robotically, but with a smile. Was even taken to my room, welcomed in with the door unlocked and light turned on, so old fashioned but I wish other places would still give that attention to detail. I'm used to simply having a key given to me and that's the sum total of interaction. Again, this pub may not be the most modern inside, but I didn't mind at all. I felt like a local by the time my short stay ended, and will have no hesitation in staying again. The drinks are reasonably priced, as is the menu. The staff were just so welcoming, loved my chats with Claire, chef Ed (a married couple who are surprisingly new to the pub game, surprising as they are excellent and locals told me what a difference they've made in a short time here). In fact, all the staff I met, I missed the ladies name on Thursday but the bar deserves to be a favourite stay for all Highly recommend the curry and the sausage and mash. Humble food, well presented and so reasonably priced too Thanks again Emmbrook Inn, couldn't fault you

The pub has been neglected for years by the previous landlord, who apparently has got the new staff in. As a local we weren't keen on the attitude of the guy who clearly prefers his other pub. He closed the pub with no regard for us locals for a month, no idea why and a lot of people now drink elsewhere. You can't take your locals for granted. Anyway, I was persuaded to return for the first time in months. I had viewed their website and in September it wasn't for me. Too expensive. Food that isn't what we want to eat and if I want to pay £20 for a burger I'd go to town. Its a small local pub. We want good food at a good price. I was told the menu had changed so it's good that the new people have the sense to listen. I went on a weekend and it was quiet which is a shame. I tried the curry and my wife had the fish. I couldn't fault my meal. It was tasty. Very well presented. Great portion size and under £13. Wife was happy with her fish, the batter was crispy and she said the whole meal was well worth the money paid. On a par with a chippy. Looking at the rest it's all very well priced and I hope they do well as Wokingham needs more reasonable places to eat and drink. Considering the bar was closed a month for refurb nothing has changed, it desperately needs a lick of paint and whoever is responding for the god awful chairs needs sacking. So uncomfortable! I wish the people who are here yet best of luck but I reckon many locals have moved on due to the bad attitude of the previous landlord.

We saw this place on social media and decided as it was near to go over. The pub has some friendly staff and a collection of welcoming locals, good sized car park and selection of drinks to pick from. I was pleased to see Marlow Brewery offerings but disappointed that Tribute was sadly off. According to the barmaid it's not popular here, but I was recommended the Overthrow and found it to be a good alternative. There's a huge menu, literally the thing is massive, very reminiscent of 70s truck stops and Little Chef! However it's pricey, way too pricey for a small village outfit like this is. As a result I didn't see any food leave the kitchen. I did ask if there are cheaper options to be told unfortunately not. One local did agree vocally that the menu, which used to be Thai, is "ridiculous" but they assured me that the food is great. With a menu that big though, surely it's all bought in? The pub itself is tired, it does have large TVs on in the wall which had Sky Sports news on when we visited. I was asked by the very friendly barmaid if there was a particular sport I was interested in so it's nice to see they are customer led in that respect. It looks like there is lots going on here on weekends, the same local informed me the new managers are trying to breathe life into a struggling pub so I wish them well. However, the main issue here is the tired, restaurant not a pub interior, and the over priced menu. Sort those out and this place would be a winner. Given this rating purely because it was nice to see a barmaid who was friendly and smiling despite the quietness of the pub. It's also nice to see a pub that doesn't look like every other Greene King pub up and down the country.
