I stayed in the Winnie Hampton Inn for several nights and was quite pleased. My room was good in all ways, with a very comfy bed. Breakfast was a typical Hampton breakfast. I wish they would have had a few more offerings, but no other complaints. This is a great place to stay if you are going birding on High Island. One of the best parts of the stay was the fact that there was a great restaurant right next door called Tia Juanita's. They have a big menu with lots of delicious offerings.

We paid about $143 per night after tax. For that price we would expect daily maid service and a good breakfast. No such luck. Over four nights we had maid service only once, despite asking for it daily. Breakfast was sort of cheap and penny-pinching. No butter, no Greek yogurt, old oatmeal very thin like soup, only one coffee urn so when that runs out you have to wait about 15 minutes for it to be replaced. Little cocktail napkins instead of regular size. TV off, some lights off, no music, soiled chair cushions. Tables not cleaned. Other problems: our toilet ran all the time. Have to constantly sign in to get internet. Barking dog in a nearby room. Most Hamptons are well managed. This one seems sub-standard.

This hotel is definitely not up to Hampton standards. The maintenance was terrible and the place needs an upgrade. I think the management is trying to save money rather than create a Hampton-like experience for guests. There was mold around shower and floor, broken calk on edge of wall, light bulb not working, only one half-used roll of toilet paper on a holder made for two with no second roll available, sink drained slowly, no hot water for shower in evening – only warm came from faucet, no coffee maker or clock in room, elevator that was scary – terrible noise and vibrations when traveling between floors, decal missing on elevator door (it was like that last year but no one seems to care), breakfast was so minimal: no sweet rolls at all, cheap bread choices, cold oatmeal, no bananas, eggs were out so had to contact staff to replenish, no one to clean tables after a guest left – very unacceptable and unhealthy.

The reason I rated this a 2 was: carpet in hallways and stairs are dirty. Room smelled musty. Dirty around bathtub, toilets would not flush, Fruit flies around breakfast area. The clerk was very nice and helpful, Tia Juanita‘s Fish Camp restaurant is right next-door, and would highly recommend eating there.

The room was nice with the exception of the mold on the shower curtain, and the fitted sheet on the king bed did not fit well and kept popping off the corners. The A/C was not the best either. Got too warm in afternoon and evening.

Will never stay here again! Room smells like a wet animal and very musty. No water pressure. Had to flush the toilet 4 times for a small amount of toilet paper to go down. Bed wasn’t up to Hampton standards. Very hard and uncomfortable and linens didn’t smell clean. Shower was disgusting and very slippery. Digital keys do not work. Cars were broken in to overnight. One of the in view of the front lobby. Three police officers were investigating upon our checkout .

Disappointed in our stay. Outside has stain runs etc everywhere. Room was most disappointing. Huge dead roach in room. Bottle cap from previous guest by bed. Ripped carpet. Dent in wall. Wallpaper coming apart in several locations. Dirty in some areas. Needs caulking in other areas. Wife mentioned the room stunk. We just arrived here less than an hour ago when writing this review. See pictures for yourself. Sad Hampton Inn...overpaid big time. Only positive is Staff.

AC was locked to only go down to 74F, that is 10F above normal AC setting for hotel room in SE Texas where it is hot and humid. The was no exhaust fan in bathroom, no fan at all. How can one take shower in bathroom and prevent total fogging of all surfaces if we are not provided bathroom fan, which is absolute code requirement device by the way! Microwave power cable did not actually reach the power outlet in the wall. Found it just dangling in back. Went to plug in and it was several feet short of reaching an outlet. Now this is just plain dumb. We had to pull microwave from cabinet and place on floor or in bed by an outlet. This is dangerous and the person whom had to move did injure their back in the process and was very upset. TV, well there was none if you tried something as simple as pushing power button on remote. Physically there was a TV monitor and a DTV box, but none of it was connected. We had to connect the DTV cables from wall to box, power to box, then using TV menu set input manually to the cable connection input option. Also, with each TV power cycle, we had to redo the process of resetting the input channel, manually by walking up to TV, very annoying and very unnecessary and old school process. Continental breakfast, the coffee cup caps DID NOT fit the cup. The brand OEM for this is so bad it should be outlawed. Dozens and Dozens of peopled struggle to put a lid on their coffee. There is no need for that, just by the next grade up cup/cap to avoid issue. Why is this important, the coffee was served at 180F, well above touch safe, so if the lid does not fit or function to hold the cheep cup from crushing it will fail, and I watched this happen several times. It happened to me, while holding cup the lid popped right off and hot coffee when all over my hand. If I was the sewing type, well.......... With that said, the next day, coffee was still from the day before. I jokingly asked reception if that was the same coffee from yesterday as it was ambient temperature, and as I watched cream not dissolve, but to my surprise the reception response was, "yes, thats probably been there since yesterday, she should be refilling it soon." This was at at 8:30 AM. The when I booked total did not match the invoiced amount unknow upcharge of $60, ongoing banking dispute. Reception employees do not follow normal personnel hygiene protocol as that smell will welcome you in.
