A very friendly welcoming establishment. Wife and I regularly visit and meet other friends. A quiet country pub and hotel opposite Winchfield railway station. Early evening, usually very quiet. Drinks fine and good varied if not large menu. Menu specials vary a lot and are a pleasant surprise. Food well cooked and tasty. Always served piping hot and on hot plates. This place is a jewel. Don’t know about the accommodation but expect just as good

...delightful landlord and lady and very pleasant staff. If you enjoy a very traditional English pub with excellent basic food and very adequate accommodation at a fair price, I recommend staying here. This must be wonderful in the summer as the gardens and outside seating area are extensive.

Stayed here as a couple on route to wales what an amazing find. Staff were so helpful attentive and pleasant. Lovely garden which is ideal for those with children as they have an amazing play area. Pretty little Brook in the middle so very relaxing. Room was really nice and comfortable. Had dinner there which was home cooked and really nice so good I even managed 3 courses. Would definitely recommend this place and would love to go back

Had a family get together , which is a RARE occasion for my dear mothers birthday, and my sisters visit from Australia, so quite a special occasion really. Lynn was a star and looked after us, all meals were enjoyed. The landlord made me feel very unwelcome and tried to make me feel uncomfortable, well, this didnt work, as i was polite to him as im not RUDE, others whom go in regular may suck up to him, not me. I tried to have polite conversation with him. No, not interested. Not me with a problem. My mother was treated like a proper human like the rest of my family were. i must really be a horrible human i guess.

Had a great experience at The Winchfield Inn today. Mothers day is always hit and miss eating out. This establishment goes way beyond to make things fab. The kids had a lovely time in the garden and the food was great! As always, we can not recommend you enough for families. Thank you Lynn and team x

I visited the Winchfield Inn at the beginning of August as a last minute choice as we were attending a wedding in the area. We needed 1 twin room and one double room. However, we were informed they didn’t offer twin rooms. My son and daughter agreed to sleep on the same bed as we were out in a rural area and didn’t have much choice of getting any other accommodation at that time of night. My room was lovely. The bed was comfortable and the decor of the room was nice. My children were put in a room that had no windows and had to share a single bed. (Might I add my both children are over 20 years old). The same night we booked in, we were starving and there was no food available at the inn. So we asked if we could order in food and we were told it was okay. But no eating in bedrooms was allowed. Which we agreed to. After 10pm, the food finally arrived and we went to Lyn to ask her where we could sit and if we could get some cutlery. She provided us with the cutlery and showed us to the breakfast area where we could sit. While we were eating, the owner came over to us and stood staring at us very intently and his face was filled with anger which made us very uncomfortable. He just stood there. Then Lyn came over and went to him. We could hear Lyn and her husband (the owner), arguing. Lyn then came over and said, her husband wasn’t happy that we were eating at the table as we are not supposed to eat inside. She further went on to say, that she took the hit for us and her shoulders were broad enough to take it. I felt awful and very sad. We didn’t finish eating, we packed up the food and went to bed. The rest of our stay (2 days), was uncomfortable and left us feeling very anxious. The second night my son left just after 1am in the morning and got a taxi to take him to the Reading train station. He said the room was that awful he couldn’t stay any longer. Lyn was a darling. That is the only reason for 2 stars!
