Holiday Inn Express Indiana

We have stayed at a lot of Holiday Inn Express hotels and even bad experiences weren’t really THAT bad. This one might be the exception. The location is good; it’s not a far ride from the Interstate, and it’s easy access to dining and shopping, if needed. The hotel is also a very short drive to the college. It’s even a quick drive to a playground, if you’re looking for one. But yes, as others have said, the parking lot is small, and not at all convenient for trailer parking. The room was quiet and had all the basics. The staff were there—not unfriendly, just not outgoing. There is a cold pool and a gym, but bring your towels, as they rarely restock. Our problems with the hotel may be a staffing issue. There seemed to be one person who cleaned the rooms, so it made sense why no one vacuumed in the bathroom before we arrived, or bothered to check that the previous guests left clothes in the closet. One of the reviews has a picture of a trash pile by the door that was similar to the trash pile left by a door for a day when we visited. But the kicker was when they ran out of breakfast. An hour before the breakfast closed, they simply ran out of all the hot food, milk, and even hot water to make a simple bowl of instant oatmeal. We asked for assistance and there was one person handling everything—the food and front desk—so we got tired of waiting and walked next door to the Eat-n-Park (recommended for a good, cheap breakfast). The poor guy working at the hotel seemed so overwhelmed, I wondered if he was close to quitting on the spot. Just a very disappointing experience for these Holiday Inn regulars.

I have stayed at this hotel every year for the past 3 years. Each year it gets a little worse and this will be the last time I stay here. The room itself was fine: clean, comfortable and the staff was friendly. In previous years, the breakfast buffet was terrible but that was OK with me because the hotel is next door to a diner if you want a hearty breakfast. It was quite empty for being a holiday weekend and I seemed to be the only occupant without a construction truck. It is nice to have a cup of coffee when you wake up without leaving your room. All other HIE hotels I've stayed at supply Keurig coffee pods, but this hotel had off-brand pods. In this price range, small things like a Keurig coffee pod are expected. The dirty lobby entrance shows that the hotel is not paying attention to their customers. If this was a budget $100 night hotel, I would overlook the breakfast, the lobby dirt, and the non-brand coffee pods.

We had reservations, and check-in was a breeze. The room was clean, the bed comfortable, and it had all the amenities you'd expect from an IHG property. Street noise was not a problem, but the walls between rooms seemed a bit thin. It's close to food, gas, and shopping. The staff were friendly and helpful.

Staying at the Holiday Inn Express in Indiana was one of the worst hotel stays I’ve had in a long time. The facility was fine, but the service was downright awful. I would never stay there again! We arrived at the hotel late on Saturday night. We parked around back & came in the back door on the lower level with a hotel guest (the door required a key). We waited a LONG time for the elevator. When it finally came, a woman came out with a mop & bucket. She saw our bags & asked, “checking in?” I said yes, & she said she’d be “right up” to the lobby. Apparently she was the only one working, & she proceeded to mop whatever area she had planned on mopping. She left us standing up there for quite a while. This was especially annoying because I had to go to the bathroom & there were no bathrooms by the lobby. When the worker finally did come back to check us in, she was not friendly AT ALL. She seemed annoyed that we were there. Then, despite having my rewards program information, she asked me to fill out a form with my name, address, phone number & email address “for safety reasons.” This was after I tried showing her my license to get checked in, but she didn’t even look at it. Obviously this makes no sense (she didn’t bother verifying I was who I said I was, but would believe whatever I write on a piece of paper that HAS my reward program information, and in my rewards profile IS all of that info). Eventually we got checked in & into our room, but it was painful! The room was fine. It was clean & there were adequate outlets by the bed. I have no complaints about the room. Holiday Inn Express has a complimentary breakfast, but they were out of many things when I went down at 8:45 AM. There were no cinnamon rolls (the tray was empty). There were no Chobani yogurts in the fridge. There was no hot water to make hot tea. Even the pancake machine (which makes pancakes) was empty. I went back to the room disappointed. I came back down a half hour later after showering. The situation was the same. I went to the front desk to ask about getting those things refilled. Once again, no one was at the front desk. I waited a few minutes. No one appeared. I rang the bell, & a guy who had been mopping the floor came over & asked what I needed. I replied that there was no hot water, & he went to get some. I was going to ask him to refill the other things, but it took him so long to get the water that I decided it wasn’t worth it. One more thing…. When we checked in, the hallway was littered with piles of things. On the first floor, there was garbage (not huge piles, but still piles) outside numerous rooms. On the third floor, there were piles of linens outside several rooms. At the end of one hallway was a box with a light fixture that was apparently being put up (or had been put up? I didn’t look inside the box). All of these things were still laying in the hallways the next day when we left the hotel. I took pictures of most of the issues & am posting them

This location has an entrance that is currently under construction but there is parking on site. The staff is ok not supper friendly. The room was cool and clean. Bed is on the softer side. Breakfast was included in price - omelettes, sausage links, cinnamon rolls, oatmeal, cereal, muffins, bread, pancakes, yogurt, and fresh fruit. There is a large common area that you can gather in.

The hotel was keep in good maintenance. Hotel staff was super friendly. The bathrooms are a little smaller than I was expecting, but the cleanliness and professionalism from the staff was great. Was satisfied with my staff.
