White Cliffs Underground Motel

A fun and funky place to experience in the NSW outback. The bar was great, the restaurant was reliable and the rooms were clean enough to be comfortable. We hadn't noticed when we booked that the bathroom facilities are shared, but they were clean and decent. We stayed two nights but could have been happy with one and move on. Sunset from the roof with a glass of red wine made it tops!

An interesting experience to stay underground. Unlike the underground motel we've stayed in at Coober Pedy, the walls are mostly lined and painted white, so brighter but not so beautiful. The price seemed a bit expensive for a room without an ensuite, but the included continental breakfast was excellent and exceeded expectations. Climbing the stairs up to the sunset viewing area was a highlight. Lots of historical photos and geological samples and information are a very interesting bonus.

The motel was comfortable and unique. There were 10 of us in the party and we had our own area for dinner. The food was good and the service great. Make sure you go up the stairs to view the outback sunset. If you are lucky, you will encounter Mick who will fill you in on opals and fossils.

The staff were extra helpful and extremely friendly.Loved the whole experience.Our room was close to Bathroom, which is a must otherwise you may lose direction underground.We will be back. My husband was ok pleasantly surprised about the whole underground experience.

We had a great 2-night stay at this motel - the second underground motel we have stayed in! Some of the more negative reviews here do not reflect our experience. The staff were friendly and extremely helpful. There were two electric cars here during our stay and it was no trouble for them to help us both plug in to outdoor power points so that we could charge our cars overnight. The restaurant has a relatively limited menu but you need to remember where you are - in the middle of nowhere. We had a great meal and the dining room was fine. Yes this motel has shared bathroom facilities but we found them perfectly clean and functional. The water pressure was fine and we had nice hot showers. This motel is quite large and the expanse of underground tunnels and rooms is quite amazing. We got lost and disoriented a couple of times but that's part of the fun and we loved it. Some people I guess turn their nose up at anything less than 5-stars. If that's the kind of person you are, then don't go to places like White Cliffs and stick to places like Dubai where you'll have a completely inauthentic and sanitised experience.

This an experience to go on the bucket list of experiences. We had 2 nights in this motel in one of the dugouts, the room temp was greater than that outside. The front end lobby was cool to it in even though they had a fire place. The bed was comfy and the staff were very friendly and helpful.
