On 16th June we stayed one night in the very level car park in our motorhome. It was really quiet after the pub had closed and, apart from the dawn chorus about 3am, and our kitty snoring, the only other disturbance was when the traffic started up on the nearby road at about 6am. Now, to the pub... This is a traditional pub and you can only expect them to make so many adaptations for wheelchair users without seriously affecting the character of the pub. At the rear, from the beer garden area, there are steps into the pub. At the front the main entrance is relatively step free, in that there is a drop of about two inches or less as you enter. Due to the narrow entrance it was impossible for my wife to drive her chair backwards in order to negotiate that drop when we left. Other than that she could get through the internal double doors when they were both opened. Note to owners.... levelling off the small drop would make entry and egress so much easier for wheelchair users. Once inside, there was a table set up for us close to the entrance; that was really easy for my wife to access and use. She could not access the toilets as they were on a slightly higher level, without a ramp. That said, I was forewarned about that when I booked. It wasn't such an inconvenience for us as we could have used our motorhome outside. Now, the service and food... From entering to leaving we experienced excellent service, particularly from the fella behind the bar; I think his name was Craig. Nothing was too much trouble for him. He introduced me to Timothy Taylor's Landlord, and I must say, the licencees keep it very well; that first pint went down so well, as did the second, then the third! The food... I had pan fried salmon with sautéed potatoes, in a light sweet chilli sauce. I'm not a heat lover, but this was delicately spiced and suited my pallete. My wife had the pan fried chicken in Diane sauce, and she said it was melt-in-the-mouth delicious. In themselves, the portion sizes were good, but add to that the perfectly cooked sides of vegetables, and the excellent hand cut chips, neither of us had any room for dessert. When travelling up this way again in our motorhome we will certainly look at staying here, perhaps having breakfast.

Had a lovely stay this weekend. Really comfy bed. We had an evening meal and breakfast both days. The food was lovely and great portions! I particularly enjoyed my eggs florentine. The staff were really helpful. We were there for a gig at the open air theatre and it was easy getting a taxi there and back. Would definitely recommend and hope to go back next year.

Simple and quick to book.
Great location. All breakfast was super and the other meals I spotted looked great. The room was wat better than required and the staff were fantastic.

Lovely staff who made the stay very pleasant. Room was lovely and clean but had a couple of damp patches on the outside wall. However apparently they are in the process of fixing the issue . All in all a very nice place to stay.

Hyggelig opphold
Veldig koselig B&B utenfor Scarborough. Rent og pent rom og en herlig engelsk pub og restaurant. De ansatte var svært hyggelige.

When visiting the area we always eat at The Oakwheel. They welcome me and my faithful companion, plus tother half! The menu is always varied but has the traditional pub favourites. The beer is also cracking! The staff who are mainly youngsters are extremely attentive and always have a smile. Give it a try you won’t be disappointed.

We have previously visited the Oakwheel for drinks and food, this year we called for breakfast and on the Saturday I had the "Big Wheel" and black pudding, my wife had the "Oakwheel". Which was excellent, cooked to perfection. On the Sunday I had the Scrambled egg on toast, and my wife had a Bacon Bap. Again cooked to perfection. We would recommend

Absolutely delicious food, I would go as far to say my pork belly was the best I’ve had for a long time and oh my goodness the crackling was the best! All four meals turned up on lovely hot plates and was very well presented. Staff very attentive, nothing too much trouble. Certainly worth a visit:-))
