We got a warm, friendly welcome when we arrived. There is so much to look at, it's a delight for your eyes. We had a cuppa tea served in fine China tea pots and a china cup's and saucers. We had the coffee cake, which was delicious. We will definitely call in again.

From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed with exceptional warmth and care by the lovely Helen, Rob, and Iona. I had booked La Rosa for a themed, joint birthday celebration with a group of my closest friends, and from start to finish, they couldn't do enough to ensure that everything was perfect. They tailored a fully vegan banquet for us, and provided thoughtful vegan alternatives for breakfast. Iona's expertly mixed cocktails even included vegan cream. The dinner, cooked by Rob, was delicious and plentiful, from the pani puri amuse-bouche to the pistachio kulfi with spiced warm pineapple. We all stayed overnight, and had a lot of fun exploring each other's rooms, every one a treasure trove, brimming with lovingly selected curios, collectibles and oddities. The entire hotel feels like a love letter to faded glamour, with a generous helping of spooky Victoriana woven throughout. With no TVs to break the spell, the atmosphere is immersive, transporting you to another time. The tearoom and the cocktail library are museums in miniature: offering a glimpse into a decadent age where more was definitely more. At La Rosa, everywhere your eyes fall there is something delightful or intriguing to look at. It was such a privilege to be able to make these spaces our own for an evening of glamour, cocktails, and utter escapism. This is a hotel for creatives, dreamers and the endlessly curious. It's for people who easily glimpse the ghosts of residents past around every corner. We all fell under its spell and can’t wait to return.

What a quirky little gem the La Rosa tearoom is. January visit and I think it is a little hit and miss if you find the tearoom open or not but once inside you will be gobsmacked at the fussy interior/decor, lots of random items to keep you amused whilst enjoying a drink/bite to eat.

Have wanted to stay @ La Rosa for ages and I went there this weekend and stayed in the caravan room ✨🔮.... it was beautiful, the bed was so comfy I could have stayed in it all weekend, we had 2 fabulous nights in Whitby and ate and drank till our hearts were content, I even managed to 'loose' my bf Wayne till the early hours today he was taken by rob in the cocktail bar, I was quite happy as I had the bed to myself for a bit ha ha. We will be back soon, this time we will treat ourselves to one of the bigger rooms 🦢🌹🥀. Maybe la Rosa room or the crows nest. Thank you so much team for the best birthday weekend! x

Booked this hotel as a last minute trip. We arrived and immediately thought what the hell. Not sure why people think that filling a hotel with tat is quirky, but each to their own. We complained about the room politely upon arrival then it went downhill. We did admittedly come home late (12pm) and after a few drinks it was hysterical coming up the stairs being greeted by the most obnoxious scary stuff including stuffed animals and a doll that would give Annabelle and Chucky a fright. The owner was looking for any reason to have a go at us. She marched into the room screaming that we were rude for coming in at midnight drunk and disturbing the rude guests next door who quite honestly looked like they needed a good drink themselves. She told us that she had phoned the police and that she wanted us to leave to which we replied that we would wait for them as we would like to speak to them as she had entered the room when I specifically told her I was naked. The owner was also livid that we hadn’t even had a drink in the bar or tried to have a conversation with the staff to which we replied that we didn’t want to spend any time here because it was absolutely filthy. We were charged nearly £600 for 3 nights with no breakfast and the complimentary coffee and tea wasn’t replenished. I presume this was our punishment for complaining. Our empty cups and milk bottles weren’t removed so I had to carry them down myself. The owner was so offended that we had complained about the room and took it completely personally telling us she didn’t trust us around the antiques (they are not antiques). My partner had jokingly moved something from the reception to our room and she treated us like we had committed the crime of the century. Our complaint was entirely legitimate and justified. The sink was cracked, the light shade was held together with cable ties and we found hair under the bed. It was dusty, cobwebs everywhere and the decor was shocking it felt like we were waiting to be sacrificed. Extremely overpriced especially as the rooms have shabby floorboards and the stairs carpet is atrocious. The owner is extremely delusional and blinkered about the state of her hotel. 'Victorian Seaside Fun' perfectly captures the vibe of La Rosa! Such a beautifully detailed and quirky gem, brimming with character and soul. You're immersed in their eclectic collection of antiques and oddities as soon as you step off the pavement. Everywhere you look, there's something interesting to see, read, explore, and enjoy. The cocktail library is such a treat, too. We felt truly spoiled having such a cool and cozy bar just downstairs! The music was always on point 👌🏻 Now, the rooms... I've never been so reluctant to leave a hotel room. We stayed in 'Stoker' on our first night, and 'La Rosa' on our second... We were only supposed to stay one night, but fell in love with the hotel and had to stay another night! Both rooms are dreamy. The beds are crazy comfortable. The views of the sea and the Abbey were so special. The large bathtubs and complimentary bubble bath were a very welcome touch... The water was hot, and the bubbles were big. What more could you ask for? And yes, two people will fit in them 😁 The staff were every much as part of the charm. Everyone we spoke to was friendly, personable, and relaxed. We were well taken care of and made to feel right at home, without being unnecessarily fussed over or interrupted. It felt like the staff immediately understood what we wanted from our stay and delivered it seamlessly. Just perfect! Needless to say, we loved everything about this hotel and can't wait to visit again. Thank you, La Rosa, for making our stay in Whitby so special! 🥰

Fabulous hotel and the owners are so lovely and welcoming. This has been our second stay here and we highly recommend it. So quirky and kitsch and we love it. Great background music and lovely cocktails, especially the Turkish rose. We will definitely be back.
