Witnessed a young lady staff member verbally destroy a younger staff member called Matthew for accepting payment for a food order and registering it to the wrong table. The young lady staff member was bullying Matthew and commenting to customers about his mistake rudely about Matthew. Matthew went out the front to ‘take a few minutes’ and on his return was shouted at across the pub in front of customers ‘you need to go out the back’ and ‘you need to ask me next time’. This made everyone feel very uncomfortable in the bar. This young female staff member then said to the rest of the staff in front of customers I finish in half an hour but I’ll be on the end of the phone in case HE!!!! messes up is bullying. Witnessing this kind of unprofessional behaviour—shouting, belittling, and speaking negatively about a colleague in front of customers—can definitely leave a lasting negative impression. It’s particularly concerning that this treatment was so public and seemed to make others, including customers, uncomfortable. In a hospitality setting, teamwork, respect, and professionalism are crucial for maintaining a positive environment for both staff and guests. No one should feel belittled or bullied, especially in front of others. The behaviour described does not align with what one would expect from a well-managed establishment, where staff should support each other to ensure smooth service and a pleasant experience for customers

Beautiful building, staff and food.great. disappointed by state of room and ensuite . Absolutely disgusting £365 for 3 nights and it to be dirty is just not on. Its a shame as could be a lovely place. Avoid Wakefield room, toiletries provided part used by previous occupants!

Visited for dinner. I ordered a Pig cheek starter which was so bad that I cancelled my main course and left. Awful cooking - brown dried out pig meat on a tasteless mush. Truly shocked as it has great reviews. I can only assume they were having an off day of the main chef was away.

We visited as a group of friends. The service was poor with meals coming out with big delays in between for some people in our group. One of the waiters dropped cutlery regularly when picking plates up. The food was disappointing to the point some meals were inedible. Everything was overpriced. I am happy to pay for good quality food but from my experience here this time, I would have complained even if they had been charging half the price, it was very poor! Braised leek starter was plentiful but pretty tasteless & sloppy. Roasted vegetable risotto was stodgy & must have had a whole jar of harissa in it. It was so spicy it was inedible. Two other people in my party ordered the same main, one ate it as she regularly eats very spicy food but she suffered an upset stomach later that night & the next day. Another friend ate about 1/4 of hers & I ate maybe 2 forks full & we both had upset stomachs the next day. They did admit they’d put too much harissa in. The gluten free crackers with dessert were soft & tasted vile, I didn’t eat them after first tasting. My friend also said her fish pie was tasteless. The place itself looks lovely but food & service let it down. One of the female waiting staff was lovely & did her best to sort things out for us.

Went for a birthday meal. My starter of pigs cheeks was very small for what they charged (£15). The 3 small cheeks were crisp on the outside which is new to me. It came with a sauce but it had no flavour whatsoever. It was like coloured water. My main was Bouillabaisse, which I had to send back due to the lack of fish content. It’s was mainly vegetable in a tomato base. When I did get another potion, it had plenty of fish in there. It’s very over priced for the quality of food and I would not return or recommend.

As per title see my image of this room, toilet seat, windows headboard, terrible dirty shower, simply not good enough they should be ashamed to let this room out, I didn’t cause a fuss just got on with it but will never stay again, I know the building is very old but not keeping it clean is disgusting As for the rest fantastic staff, food and drinks, love the cozy restaurant. Very steep staircase up to your room
