Golo Hilltop Hotel

Labuan Bajo|0.4km from Pantai Binongko
As a starting point for our t****th trip with friends across Flores, we chose Hotel Golo Hilltop. Booked this hotel directly with the owners, two nice Dutch ladies. Upon request they arranged a transfer from the airport to the hotel. Upon entering you are a bit shocked by the number of stairs you have to climb (with your luggage) before reaching the rooms. But what is also immediately noticeable is a sea of flowers everywhere in the well-maintained garden. Once you reach the top, the view over the Flores Sea is fantastic. This used to be the case with the view along the coast, but it is now completely marred by the construction of a number of large hotels. We opted for a superior room. Rooms were neat with air conditioning and good beds. A spacious wardrobe with the hanging area mounted very low. The bathroom has a spacious walk-in shower and toilet. The small shallow sink with a shelf just above it was very uncomfortable, which made refreshing your face and brushing your teeth inconvenient. Although the hotel had indicated that due to... Due to Covid 19 no longer serving lunch and dinner, we assumed that this was now a thing of the past. Unfortunately, that was not the case, which meant that one had to go into town for lunch and/or dinner instead of relaxing at the beautiful swimming pool with a view of the sea. The option to order something from a restaurant and have it delivered was available, but it did not seem ideal to us. In short, a nice hotel to start a trip to Flores and/or the Komodo Islands, but not to relax there for several days.

Komodo Lodge

I stayed for one night at the Komodo Lodge after my live aboard boat trip. The room is affordable, basic and clean and comes with a very simple breakfast. As I was on the ground floor, I had a verandah with outdoor seating and a clothes drying rack (I believe it is the same for the upstairs units with the balconies). Nothing to complain about. The staff are all very friendly and helpful. The mosque in town might be too loud for some if one is not used to it and some guests may be a bit loud as well with their conversations as they walk by. But other than that, everything else was pretty much ok. Location wise, Komodo Lodge (at Jalan Mutiara) is well placed as it sits in between the street with the seafood stalls that open at night (Jalan Kerapu) and the main drag with the tour companies/agents and good eats (Jalan Soekarno Hatta) so all are within walking distance.

Blue Ocean Hotel

The service is good and the staff are friendly. The rooms are very large, and some rooms have small bugs. I stayed in two rooms 8/9. No. 8 is smaller than No. 9, but there are no bugs. It is not recommended for people with poor sleep when facing the street. The noise of the car at night is quite noisy. I can sleep all night after getting used to it for 3 nights. The breakfast is on the rooftop, there are only 4 varieties, and it's a standard that can be eaten. It is very close to the pier and walked for about 3 minutes. There are many places to eat on the side. The prices are okay, similar to Beijing.
