A wonderful, fairytale place. We stayed 6 nights and I can say that they were not enough. A truly wonderful experience in the middle of nature. An ecological resort may not be to everyone's liking, but I highly recommend it to those who want to experience peace and quiet in the middle of nature.

Wonderful day trip chombe experience Chumbe island day trip has been the highlight of our stay in zanzibar. The coral park snorkeling was perfactacular and the forest walk with our guiding was super informative. The food was hand down one of the best we have in zanzibar

We stayed in Bungalow 6 with our two kids. This is a beach resort experience like no other. If you truly want to stop and connect with nature Chume Island is can’t miss. There are a few activities but mostly we swam, read books and played family board games. The food is the best we’ve had in Tanzania with fresh fish and lots of options for sides and fresh veggies that are safe to eat. The bungalows are rustic (open air, composting toilets) but it feels like Robinson Crusoe. The staff are very friendly and attentive but leave you alone to get lost in the views. We visited in 2014 before kids and were excited to bring our girls who found it just as magical. Thank you Chumbe for another amazing trip!

Chumbe island day trip has been the highlight of our stay in Zanzibar. The coral park snorkelling was spectacular and the forest walk with the our guiding ranger - Mohd -was super informative. The food was hand-down one of the best we have had in Zanzibar. Overall, we were deeply impressed by the Chumbe project, which proves that well-managed, dedicated efforts can truly protect nature while benefiting the local communities. One suggestion would be allowing the day trip visitors to get a bit more out of the visit, we felt like there has been a bit to much time in-between activities. For example enabling guests to spend more time snorkeling or exploring the island would be advised (if requested).

Chumbe Island is a unique and wonderful place to visit. The huts are super cool and the food is delicious and plentiful (to the point where I had to actually ask for smaller portions!). Drinking water was plentiful with no need for plastic bottles, which I appreciated. As an overnight guest we got to go snorkeling in the morning which I preferred to mid-day as the water was much calmer and clearer. We also got to go for a night snorkel! They have a great mission and I was happy to support it while having an amazing experience.

We had a fantastic 5 nights at Chumbe. We were looking for an authentic eco-lodge and Chumbe didn’t disappoint: from the guided snorkelling on the amazing reef; the cool eco-bungalow we stayed in; to the tasty authentic Zanzibari meals we enjoyed in the airy visitor centre looking out at the sea and the stars. The team on the island was fantastic, everyone was generous with their time and their knowledge. This is about as far away from a typical beach resort as you are likely to get - conservation is front and centre here. We loved that! The island is small, so apart from snorkelling each day we spent time walking around the island at low tide; exploring the rock pools and enjoying the white sand beach.

Paradise! We would consider ourselves well travelled but this place was phenomenally beautiful beyond anything we’ve seen before. The staff were immensely welcoming and friendly and were part of the positive experience. We arrived here with our two children aged eight and 10 after having spent several weeks on the mainland volunteering and this was our final stop before we headed home. The connection to nature and the eco-conscious and conservation angle of Chumbe Island provides a guilt free and rewarding type of tourism experience. The snorkelling along the Christine reef and the amazing local inspired food was an added bonus. The kids were made to feel welcome. This is a really unique and special place, doing so much good in the world. we will be back as soon as possible. Asante!!

This is an amazing island experience with lovely staff making everything easy for us! The food is exceptional— fresh tasty and served exquisitely. The cabins are comfortable with very careful consideration of the environment (composting toilets, solar powered lighting and showers). We enjoyed the snorkeling, short hikes and a walk up the lighthouse for a sensational view. Seeing coconut crabs at night was an unexpected joy!
