NSG Paterzeller Eibenwald 😍 Yew trees are simply very different! From an evolutionary perspective, this tree species is one of the most ancient coniferous plants. It does not form cones but red pseudoberries, it has no resin canals and can regenerate itself through shoots, an ability otherwise only possessed by deciduous trees. The long-fibered, extremely hard and tough wood provided the building material for the legendary English longbows. Horses are particularly sensitive to this, the lethal dose is said to be 100-200 g of yew needles. Unfortunately, this does not apply to deer, which see young yews as a delicacy and prevent natural regeneration in our country quite effectively. Most of us only know yews as hedges or as isolated, usually somewhat rachitic, trees in the undergrowth of forests. Anyone who wants to get to know the impressive power of the personality of old yews should definitely visit the Paterzeller Eibenwald nature reserve in the municipality of Wessobrunn in Upper Bavaria. 1,500 older yews with a diameter of up to one meter grow there on 88 hectares. A 1 km long circular path with information boards points out the special features of this tree species, but you should definitely explore the surrounding hiking trails as well. Old yews are characterized by their picturesque growth form. They are often hollow, bizarrely twisted, the orcs of the trees. No two specimens are the same, each tree is unique and has its own personality. You could walk through this area for hours, taking photos of one fascinating tree portrait after another. Ich kann hier nur das Restaurant bewerten, und muss leider feststellen ,das es sich sehr verschlechtert hat und die Preise jeglicher Grundlage entbehren. 2x Seniorenteller 1x Backhendlsalat 1x Knödel und zwei Suppen mit 4x antialkoholische Getränke 116€ ,wobei man sagen muss, das die Seniorenteller eher Kinderteller waren und nur 2€ abzug auf den normalen Preis verbilligt waren, also richtige Abzocke. Wir waren jahrelang regelmässige Gäste, werden uns aber jetzt etwas anderes in der Gegend suchen.
