The Tudor Wing is the 'modern extension' of the main Medieval property at Cullacott and was built in 1579 ( this date is carved in granite on the lintel of the main parlour window). It has very large spacious and airy rooms with a flag stone floored parlour with an open fireplace and grand oak floored bedrooms. These bedrooms are reached by a wide slate turret staircase. The twin room is accessed through the main bedroom and has a modern en suite. The main bathroom including a shower, is downstairs. The warm kitchen with its welcoming quarry tiled floor has craftsman built oak cupboards and all modern facilities. The Tudor wing can accommodate a family of 5 as the spacious main bedroom has a sofa bed, but it is equally suitable for 2 people and a discount is given for couples staying there if booking for a week or more. Cullacott is a Grade 1 listed medieval Hall House situated in peaceful countryside near the Devon and Cornwall border on a small working farm, which has been in the family for 5 generations, and commands splendid panoramic views over the Ottery Valley. The restoration of the property jointly won the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors' National Building Conservation award for best restored house. Its sensitive restoration has ensured the house has preserved its basic simplicity and yet great care has been taken to provide every comfort for the visitor.The house can be booked as a whole property, accommodating groups of 10-12 people, but it has also been divided into two self-contained units, the Longhouse and the Tudor Wing, both with entrances onto the cobbled courtyard and with a large garden and sunny terrace overlooking the fields running down to the river. The Long House sleeps 6-7 people and contains the medieval great hall for dining, a snug parlour and low beamed kitchen. One quirky staircase leads up from the parlour where you find the bathroom, shower room with toilet and the twin bedroom. The second staircase leads up from the passageway to the main bedroom and also to the west wing bedroom which looks out over the garden.The Tudor Wing sleeps 4-5 people in two large airy oak floored bedrooms reached by a slate turret staircase, with it's original studded door. The twin bedroom has a modern ensuite shower room and toilet cleverly disguised within it. The beautiful large parlour downstairs has a big open fireplace and even a harmonium to play. The bathroom is also downstairs, as is the craftsman built kitchen with its warm quarry tiled floor. The Longhouse contains the medieval Great Hall, snug parlour with huge open fireplace, low beamed kitchen which contains a wooden ovolo window dating from the late 1400s. There are 2 staircases, an oak newel stairs and a fascinating 'trip stairs' designed to trip up medieval burglars, both with doors at the top and bottom.
