I got the day spa voucher for this hotel for my birthday. I had one entire day inside the spa, which I have to say it is nice…the spa has a pool inside and a pool outside, it was a rainy day so outside was really cold and I have to say water was too cold, for me and my friend wasn’t enought warm to enjoy. Pleasant was the sauna area and all these beautiful old rooms inside. With spa day we got also to have lunch there, at the restaurant, lunch was good, service was a bit pushing to be honest, but we enjoyed it anyway. The spa has really a beautiful view. Service at the spa receptionist was really good and professional, really welcoming. We loved the bed full with water, to relax, and the fact you can have tea and water whenever you want. Generally I would like to come back there, I just hope water will be warmer. Marika and Claudia

Pro’s - 1) The view from the rooms are exceptional, what a view to wake up to 2)The evening meal and staff were 5*, so delicious and the staff were so attentive 3) Location is great and the Lido is perfectly situated 4) Amazing massage, one of the best I’ve ever had Negatives 1) No aircon which is ok until there is 30’c plus heat, which it was when we arrived. I was sweating walking around the hotel and in my room, we were melting eating dinner until I asked to open a window. 2) Whilst the spa pool was lovely, some of its other amenities weren’t open or was of poor standard (cold plunge pool was dirty)

I had one night at this property, between Hertenstein and Weggis in a beautiful location overlooking the lake. While the property is not lake-front, it is very close to the lake, and has a bit of an elevated hill-side location, making the lake vista even more beautiful. There is a small road separating the hotel and the lake, but luckily there's very little traffic and noise from the road. I had booked an 'Arven' room with a balcony and view of the lake. Indeed, the view was pretty spectacular, and really allowed you to take in the stunning nature of the area. I was able to check in pretty early in the day, which was much appreciated, and I was offered a free drink (I chose Prosecco) as a welcome. I also got a free snack in the room as a welcome, and there's a mini bar as well, albeit a bit pricey. The bathroom was also nice and pretty spacious. The hotel features a very nice outdoor and indoor pool, and there's a spa area where you can book massages and such. There's also saunas available and various other spa facilities. It was slightly cold during my visit, so the heated pool was much appreciated and it was lovely to enjoy the stellar view of the lake from the pool. I had breakfast, lunch and dinner on site (mostly because there's not many dining options within walking distance) but all was great, and service from staff was perfect. After dinner, I got some incredible pictures of the view, and also realized that the hotel has an area on the other side of the road, right by the lake, with chairs and a nice place to enjoy the view, literally right by the lake. I believe you can also use the restaurant and facilities at their sister property next door, Gerbi. The area itself is very quiet and uneventful. There is an indoor pool at Lido across the street, and the small city of Weggis (where you can also take the boat to Luzern) is maybe a 10 minute walk from the hotel. Overall, an amazing hotel with great service from the staff. It shows that it's a family-run property and that they want to make every guest have a great experience.

Wonderful hotel. Very well run with friendly and helpful staff. Comfortable, luxurious rooms that were spotless. The owners gave us tips on how to visit nearby Mt. Rigi, which worked out perfectly. Beautiful views from the rooms, the restaurant, and the pools. An exceptional spa with multiple saunas, an infinity pool, and an indoor pool. Live piano music in the bar, and an absolutely amazing chef that works magic with locally sourced ingredients. The only negative is that we couldn’t stay longer!

Heidi in the breakfast serving & Michaela in the front desk made our week lovely! They where always friendly and helped us out with different requests with a smile and kindness that made us feel very welcome. The spa area is great, both indoor and outdoor. The gym has a fantastic view over the lake which made it a pleasant place to work out. We also appreciate the private area next to the sea, owned by the hotel, where you can swim in the clear sea. There are sun beds, parasols and a jetty. The Hotel also lent out SUP-boards, kayaks and bicycles for free. We also appreciated the free shuttle service. The three small things that where preventing me to give the facilities and the hotel 5 out of 5 is; 1) The lack of blackout curtains. The lights shines in, both from the street, and also from the sunrises around 6 in the morning. 2) The lack of bed mattress to soften the bed. The beds are very firm. We slept on our blankets for a whole week. 3) And lastly, the lack of AC. Our room was facing north and we got to borrow a fan, so the temperature was after all okey. But I expect that these three simple requirements would exist in the rooms of a four-star hotel.

I have stayed in dozens of Swiss hotels for over 60 years and found the Alexander pleasant but somewhat lacking. The Hasler family were charming. After a long journey, it was disappointing to find all 4 adults complain about a bad first night’s sleep and something as simple as the pillows being to blame. Despite the hotel having a pillow menu with options such as pine shavings, horse hair, sheep hair, millet seed and bees wax but nothing as mundane as foam, we decided to go and purchase 4 pillows at the Coop in Luzern! This did not make a great first impression and nor did the attitude of the receptionist with whom we discussed the issue who said it was up to us. As we couldn’t take the pillows home at the end, we gifted them in pristine condition to the hotel for the benefit of future guests - so please ask! This hotel is in a fabulous location overlooking the Vierwaldstättersee (Lake Lucerne). The rooms are a little tired. The staff are mostly very pleasant and helpful but sadly not terribly efficient. Self service breakfast is an extensive buffet with little to criticise except that dishes of fruit and scrambled egg were not replenished quickly. The 3 course evening meal was tedious in terms of awaiting service especially as we had a 4 year old in our party. We also found some strange food combinations and actually preferred the food at the sister hotel, the Gerbi. Even ordering A La Carte we found restrictive over the 10 day stay. The hotel offered a meat fondu and when we asked for that one evening we were told it couldn’t be done as our table was not near to an electric socket. The hotel charged for tap water (we also bought soft drinks, wine and spirits) which we found strange. Yet a tea and coffee facility was free on each floor - with free water! There were sometimes noisy building works taking place at the hotel commencing at 7am. The hotel pools and spa facilities were excellent. On days when the hotel had day conferences taking place it was very difficult to find a parking place! Spaces were reserved with plastic cones for delegates and I was asked to park further away below the hotel in a public car park.

Great location and wry nice outdoor pool. Views are superb! Rooms have new bathrooms which are great and also wooden floor in the rooms. Other than that the hotel is pretty dated style-wise. For the location it’s very good value for money. Only real downside is that the service is rather incompetent and the food average at best.

1) Room doesn't match website pictures. 2) Staff kicks you out when breakfast time ends. And they have very early breakfast times. 3) Bed is too hard causing back pain even though I'm only 29 years old. The 4* hotels in Zürich and Zug had amazing beds.
