Closed business. Brewery wrote to me 1 day before a 2 day room booking that they have ceased trading and are finding new tenants. No explanation to why and who they were. The email was a shallow apology and offered no compensation other than a brief statement regarding a refund. Absolutely woeful way to do business.

Booked 2 twin rooms but was given 2 doubles. Not a problem for our group but could be for others. Had dinner in the restaurant. Food was nice but service was a bit jolted. Room was clean and shower was hot. Would have no problem with staying again.

Wow! What a place. To start with check in is a piece of paper pinned to the back door of the pub, with room numbers saying key is in the door! Once in the room there was mould all around the bathroom, windows that you couldn't open and the room was roughly the temperature of the sun!!! We arrived on a Monday after a day's work wanting a good pub meal only to find that pub is shut to general public and guests on Mondays and Tuesdays!!!! On a brighter note the spoke and spire is a short walk and highly recommended!! Once we had a meal there on Thursday I order my food and waited 25 minutes to then be told they didn't have what I had ordered,so had to change my order ! My found eventually arrived another 25 minutes later over all very very poor service.

As soon as I arrived I was informed that, even though I had booked a room a few months earlier, they had overbooked and had no room for me. I have never experienced this anywhere before and I am mystified why they didn't inform me before my arrival. They muddled together a solution for me but I would have preferred to have been told about the problem beforehand so I could make my own alternative arrangements. I can only assume that I wasn't informed before my arrival because they were simply too incompetent to spot the issue any earlier. I would hope that this sort of mistake is not common but keep it in mind if considering booking a room for a special occasion as you could be left high and dry. I can see from other reviews that I'm not alone in having a bad experience with this place...wish I had read the reviews before booking my stay!

I booked the Fat Fox for my family to stay at during my wedding which was nearby, as a family we booked a total of 6 rooms, so lucrative business for a small B&B. The issues were numerous. Despite an email confirmation and various phone calls, it transpired on the day before my wedding that a room for my groomsmen and my sister and her partner hadn’t been booked. Heather offered no apology but sought to blame everyone else. She blamed me for not paying a deposit, I offered to do so but she refused and she also blamed my sister for going into a room at checkin that “wasn’t hers”, my sister didn’t checkin, her partner did so this was a lie. Heather then offered one alternative room above the pub that she admitted was noisy and had a shared bathroom, I said a shared bathroom wasn’t going to work and she rudely said it was good enough for a Lord and Lady that were staying there so it should be good enough for my guests. That was incredibly rude and I’m not even sure if what she said was true. As all the issues came out the day before my wedding, we still had a family meal there with 24 of us despite all these issues. The function room was nicely done and the food was good but Heather completely ignored the monumental errors in leaving my family without accommodation. I think she tried to suggest she gave me a preferential rate on the wine I bought, but the price paid was the same as that quoted in the email. In summary, not only was the booking procedure a shambles that led to me having a really stressful day the day before my wedding (Heather didn’t bother to try and sort the situation and find alternative accommodation for us), the staff were rude and didn’t take responsibility for THEIR error and more than that the rooms that she did manage to reserve were tired and not in a good state. Please avoid this pub and B&B as they really don’t deserve your business.

Such a shame that the service was not good as the food was great! They turned the lights off half way through our meal and started wiping down tables- talk about subtle hints to leave!!! Also the waiter kept peering through to see if we had finished.

Worst pub in long time Bed and breakfast this is how this pub is ment to be run. How on earth can you run a bed and breakfast when you dont tell your guests that on sunday early you close. Then closed all day monday and Tuesday and open up on a Wednesday evening. Of which these days you dont serve food. So let's get this correct! You run a pub and bed and breakfast but are only open 4 days a week. Upon arrival we are told that we can not eat as your not open. And the welcome was not to great from a ubrubt landlady. And breakfast is not served yet you end up paying for it in your room rate. When you run a bed and breakfast your ment to open 7 days a week ! I dont know any other bed and breakfast to close half the week. I really did not rate my room either. And for the money we paid we received what was ment to be the best room but was no better than a travel lodge room. Clearly who ever runs this pub is thick as two planks of wood. And clearly does not Know how to run a buissness like this with success. We didnt get to eat hear as the pub was closed for the entire time of our visit. I thought to myself it must be hard work running a pub part time. But I think its run by a young man and his grandma so I guess the dear must not be able to cope. Little tip.. BE HONEST AND KEEP YOUR PUB OPEN TO YOUR STAYING GUEST AT LEAST.

The Fat Fix was clean, comfortable and friendly. Very good food and the staff were extremely helpful regarding charging an electric vehicle as well, overall, a super stay and I cannot rate them highly enough.
