The Marlborough Hotel

A very odd place rooms recently refurbished but only given 2 bath towels and 1 toilet roll. We asked if we could have breakfast to be told that they had no food or drink available even though their website states that a restaurant and bar were there? When we paid we were told card machine didnt work and could we pay cash we said we could not do this and then the card machine did work! During the night around midnight someone knocked on our door? There was alot of shouting going on outside as well. The room wasnt totally clean the glass which was there was dirty too. There is no hairdryer and no bath mat making bathroom floor very slippery. The only good thing about this place is the size of the room and decor and the refurbishment of the bathroom although the shower was hit and miss temp wise. The bed was comfortable. Its located 10 minute walk from Waterloo station with frequent trains into Liverpool city centre around 20 minute journey. Local buses were very good too as was the choice of good restaurants in South Street 10 minutes walk away. All in all we felt that this hotel was on the brink of closing down it felt like it was more of a hostel than a hotel.

The woman who runs this place lives next door to this hotel and she's not a nice person her husband walked in my room one day as he thought I'd be out and when I asked him what the hell he thought he was doing coming in my room he told lies and said I was confrontational to him - ya bet ya **** I was

We were on whistle stop tour of NW and looking for a B&B in Liverpool. We couldn't find anything central( due to a big footie match) so opted for this. We had left a very smart hotel and as we drove into the car park thought we had made a mistake as appeared a little run down but internally the hotel had been refurbished. It was room only booked with an on line company and the owner, Kas, had called me to point out he could offer a better room for same price. Wasn't a problem as breakfasts were easily obtained nearby or in Liverpool centre Rather than drive in 4/5 miles there is ample free parking it was only a 10 min walk to the Mersey Rail station which was a 15 min ride into the City. Constructive suggestions- -When you can afford it redec exterior as it will attract passing customers -In room perhaps some notes on facilities and additional item such as a hairdrier might be useful As I say owner Kas was helpful as was on site manager Maxine who lived closeby and was available at all times on phone or in person
