Travelodge Waterford

Was in Waterford for a football match and booked because it’s close to the stadium and Travelodge usually ok, even though the rating was low. The guy who checked me in was nice but recommended against paying for breakfast, which I thought was odd. The building is weird, dated, but the room was fine. All very basic, but ok. I had a late night after the match and overslept a bit. At 12:40, the receptionist was banging on the door and threatening to call the Gardai. I accept I was late to check out but I’ve never seen this type of reaction ever before and I’ve stayed in a lot of hotels over the years. He was rude, abusive, and actually quite threatening. I mentioned about giving a review and he said “I don’t care”. Got this picture of him whilst checking out, which says it all. There are better, cheaper, more central hotels in Waterford. Don’t stay here.

It was fairly basic but clean and was suffice. The staff were very nice and welcoming, a bit expensive though, €155 for me and my child for one night. Would stay there again without hesitation but will look for a better deal.

We booked this room with our 12 year old son, and the bed he was given to sleep on was a type of camp bed. He said it felt like sleeping on cardboard and was complaining the next day with aches and pains. The other issue we had was that the room was too cold because the heater kept switching off.

Absolutely fantastic welcoming friendly staff. The rooms were well kept. Highly recommend a stay here. Definitely will stay again when we visit next.

So I am only here at the Waterford Travel Lodge for one night (thankfully!). I’m staying here for business so proximity to where I’m working tomorrow was the deciding factor here. I know people might say ‘what do you expect, it’s a travel lodge…’ and ‘you’re not paying much’ …well, my expectations were low before I arrived…I hear you! Sure the bathroom could be cleaner for example - there’s stains up the wall that just need wiping away (standards?) However, I do believe that despite being a budget hotel, being able to suitably heat the room through the night of your stay is a basic requirement. I walked into the room not expecting much but it did feel cold as I walked in…and I wouldn’t describe myself as neish so I turned on the rad (of course it was off, it’s a travel lodge)… however, the radiator is limited to 2hours max at a time and only to a supposed 21degrees (it doesn’t feel like 21 in here!) so I’m sat with a hot drink and my nose is cold. I mean… c’mon Travel Lodge, this is crazy! Needless to say, they will not be getting any repeat business! Had I arrived this afternoon and discovered this, I would not be staying. #ridiculous
