The Stapylton Arms

Booked for 4 people for Sunday lunch, we have never been before but our friends have. Greeted warmly as we arrived and shown to our table quickly. Drinks ordered and arrived speedily. Menus arrived in a timely manner and scanned, good variety. Food ordered and arrived quickly. The roast beef was fantastic, 2 thick slices of medium rare. Presented beautifully, and ample veg sufficient for 4 people. I don't believe I have had such tasty food for a long time. Even managed to make room for a dessert, apple pie and custard....well presented and again very tasty. Staff were attentive but not intrusive. Dining room was inviting and nicely furnished with space between tables. The restaurant was an hours drive from home but based on our visit, we will be going there again

A party of five of us have been to the fish extravaganza this evening . I have to say it’s the best turbot I have ever tasted , it was a busy service which went smoothly, the staff were charming and helpful and the food absolutely first class , it’s a very long time since I enjoyed such an amazing meal , compliments to the whole team . Thank you

Lovely quiet village not far from Thirsk and the A1(M). A friendly welcome and a clean comfortable room. We booked for dinner and the food was delicious and service equally friendly. A 10 minute walk after dinner to the abbey ruins down the road was a nice surprise. Great bed and tasty breakfast. All in all an enjoyable place to stop over on the way up to the Lake District. Only down side was that we couldn't connect to their internet.

We decided to come here after being told how good it was, especially the food. What a disaster! We were ignored for 45 minutes, then we enquired if we were to receive any service to be told "we are a bit behind in the kitchen" at this point we hadn't even had the opportunity to order a drink. The young lady who was working front of house was struggling to keep up with other diners enquires but their food as well. After being told that we would be served and our order was taken at the bar we were approached by the waitress saying some of the items were now unavailable. So despite booking to stay here and eat here weeks ago we left and had a meal at the White Swan in Ampleforth which I have to say was first class. Served up by professional caring staff something that was certainly lacking at the Stapylton. Would I recommend staying here, after such a disappointing experience!!

Stay was ok, i am vegetarian and it was like being an after thought. One choice on the menu which was pasta. I gad a starter as a main coursein the end. No alternatives for a vegetarian breakfast. I justvthink its a bit poor. I pay the same as others and there is no alternative
