Spruce Hill Inn & Cottages

Pictures are deceiving. Seems like this place hasn't been fully taken care of for years & almost looked abandoned - We booked last min. for my hubbys birthday. When we arrived we didn't know where to go, so we drove around. There were no signs. We went back down the drive to the house and 2 peolple were pulling out of the driveway looking at us like we didn't belong there. Hubs asked where we were supposed to check in & they said to follow them. So we followed them to our cottage & they gave me a number to call if we needed anything. We spent the majority of our night texting the number & trying to get a Wifi signal. It never worked which was tough with 2 kids. We had horrible cell service and had to put our phones in a certain spot to get a signal. The place looked nice at first but we soon realised it wasn't very clean. It smelled like cheap air freshener, even the beds. It was so strong. We wanted to air it out but multiple windows didn't have screens, which is so dangerous. Toilet hadn't been cleaned, tub jets were filthy , cobwebs & spiders, small TV, dirty coffee maker & only McDs mocha flavored coffee? It was so hot. The air was on full blast but it was LOUD & made weird sounds that woke us up throughout the night. Uncomfortable beds, thin pillows & only a sheet & thin quilt, freezer was dirty and had an opened coke & opened old bag of ice in it. Didn't have the time or patience to complain over the phone when we checked out so we just got the heck out of there.

Jacuzzi had mold around jets, trash and broken furniture laying around outside, pond was a nasty mess, frame of bed was a nasty mess. Website said we had a deck no deck. Never see. The people who runs it. Horrible place.

First time been there. I will go back again but this time with more people.

I called 30 minutes before check in to make sure everything was good for us to arrive at 3:00. They said yes and the key would be hanging on the hook behind the door. We arrived and a lady came running towards us and said can I help you. We are here to check in. We are not ready for you. The headboard to the bed needs to be put back together and we need to get you a wi-fi tower and antenna. It was not cleaned, refrigerator was rusted not updated at all. Even the toilet was not cleaned. Bugs in the bath tub We waited to be told we would have to be moved because of a water issue. Staff was very unprofessional. After driving for 10 hours no one wants to have to deal with a situation like this. The lady that checked us in and the maintenance guy were always fussing even while I was on the phone with her. The pictures on the website were very deceiving. The grass and ****s were so high could barely see our little dog. Would definitely not recommend this place.

My husband found this place to stay while we were back home visiting. Was looking for some place cheaper than the hotel we usually stay at. I read all the reviews about this place and they're all over place. There are signs on the main road directing you up the paved driveway. There's a building to the left half way up that could use some cleaning up. No main office, check in/out over the phone. Pond looked a little murky and it appeared people were living in the cottages around it as there was an RV parked next to them. Grounds need some maintenance and mowing, we saw a riding mower parked in some ****s near a lodge. Our cottage had a bay window but no deck out back. To walk around back to fire pit area you'd have to go through woods. Our neighbors for one night called for firewood that was promptly delivered. We stayed in 126 and the door was a bit difficult to open. Bathroom was big and jacuzzi was nice! Plenty of hot water, shampoo and soap. Towels made you feel at home with the colors. We paid extra for a kitchenette that was poorly stocked. Oven was dirty but couldn't use it because no pans. Had a saucepan and frypan and odd assortment of plates, silverware and glasses. Had microwave, sink and nice size fridge. Had a charcoal grill but no grilling utensils.Husband complained about TV being too small. Bed was comfy and sheets smelled freshly washed. Didn't hear our neighbors through the walls. There was a lot of furniture in this small space, some of it didn't make any sense and it really cluttered up the space. Elizabeth was nice and pleasant to deal with. This place has so much potential, I really hope it's on the upswing and not going downhill. Quiet country setting close to civilization. We enjoyed our stay here and would definitely consider it again.

the weather was starting to warm up, start of spring. The landscaping could use some help but the inside cottage were nice.

The description of the place is upscale, but that must have been 20-30 years ago. My husband surprised me with a birthday getaway, and we sure were surprised with how shabby this place was. We literally almost left. It looks like people are living in most of the cottages, and we thought we were at the wrong place. Like all the other reviews, check-in was confusing. The room smelled strongly of extra-strength cat urine remover, but luckily we brought our own scented candles, and after airing the room for a few hours (some windows didn’t have any screens-thank god we didn’t bring our baby), it wasn’t so bad. Room definitely needed a deep cleaning- dead and alive spiders along the ceiling in the bathroom, tiles were cracked and broken around the jacuzzi tub, the lights and vent in the bathroom didn’t work. The room had WAY too much random furniture in it, making it an obstacle course, especially to get to the bed (which had springs sticking out the side). We had to ask for outdoor chairs around the fire pit, and there was wood debris from tearing down a deck, with nails sticking up. Our neighbors played loud music with vibrating base all night and day, and thier kids kept pestering us to let them join our fire. For what was supposed to be a relaxing birthday weekend away, it was not very relaxing at all. I’m sure this was a lovely place at one time, but that time is long gone. Just sad. We will not be back or recommend to others at all
