MAGPIE 5 I rated this as average because it totally was but with a few simple adjustments it could be excellent. Arrival : We arrived an hour early so messaged to ask if we could enter lodge early .. we tried FB messenger & email but although we could see that the message had been read we received no answer. We also telephoned the number on the website (recommended by owners) but it was constantly out of action. We sat in the car for an hour which was okay as we were dry from the pouring rain unlike the poor couple stood outside for an hour obviously waiting for someone to arrive in reception and give us our kuys. At 4pm (checkin time) no one arrived and we still couldn’t get hold of anyone … we waited a little longer and then I decided to walk down to the lodge and look around… which is when I found that the door was open and the keys were inside in the table !!!! That would have been FANTASTIC to know as I love a self bookin it’s hassle free and so convenient. But this is not communicated in the booking info or on the website! This is really poor service and not great as my first impression! Once in the lodge we were hit by a very musky damp smell … it is pretty overpowering and all my clothes and possessions stank of it once home, I’m pretty sure that if the lodge was properly cleaned that smell would go but the lodge was anything but clean. The surroundings are beautiful, even in the pouring rain the lake and surrounds are beautiful and so peaceful. The lodge itself (cleaning aside) is well Equipped and had some lovely features. Beautiful big comfortable bed, luxurious dressing table .. plenty of storage space for clothes and other bits. The kitchen is well equipped with everything you might need. The lounge area is comfortable, huge tv and all need to relax and chill. The hot tub is private and just fabulous.. it is the only thing that screamed luxury about the lodge and the saviour of our visit. Bathroom is nice with walk in shower, toilet and sink, also a heated towel rail which was great. Sadly the let downs were the lack of cleaning … if you are going to have a ornate wooden bed then you must be prepared to clean it!! It was filthy with engrained dirt and dust. Every bit of furniture in the bedroom was under a layer of dust. The carpet is filthy, it’s clear it hasn’t had a good clean in a very long time. The light on top of the four poster bed doesn’t work. The floor of the shower was grimy and you could see a film of soapy dirt where a poor attempt at cleaning had been made. It was disgusting around the base of the toilet. The toaster should just be thrown away it was rusty and the food grime clearly visible down the sides was unbelievable. The kettle was also grim with dirt all round the rim of the lid. The oven, fridge & microwave were perfectly clean so some cleaning had taken place well. All windows were filthy and the outside needs a damn good paint especially the door which is the first thing you see and it ju

We booked 2 nights in beaver 1 for our wedding anniversary, after reading the reviews I thought we had made a mistake. Let me address some of the negative comments. The kitchen, bathroom and bed were all clean, ok some surfaces were a little dusty, the windows could do with a clean the walls in the bathroom could do with a wipe but overall not as bad as some reviews made out. The hot tub is a proper one not inflatable like some of the pictures show, occupants are requested to drain tub on leaving (not a big ask). There is bath towel and face towel for each occupant, soap shampoo and shower gel, sponge cloth, tea towel and washing up liquid. On arrival we saw a heron, at breakfast an otter, owl hoots in the evening lots of squirrels and birds, the lake is very overgrown with pond **** to the point where I would be worried if a child would know where the grass ends and the lake begins. On our last night while relaxing in hot tub one of the neighbour's decided to have a gathering playing music loudly, singing (if you can call it that), swearing this went on from 9 until 12.30 very inconsiderate, i.t says in the roles this will not be accepted but there is no one on site to monitor it. Over all we had a nice cosy break away, it's a good site with a lot of potential but unfortunately missing the mark at the moment. Internet was patchy good enough for browsing and music but not for streaming movies. In handover book there are a lot of requests for a shelf in the bathroom would be an easy fix. We popped in the lodge for a drink very nice. Had a meal at la campgna (10 minute drive away) awesome.

Had a lovely 2 night stay, very clean and tidy on arrival, cosy cabin with a veranda with views over the lake, hot tub ready to go on arrival & was perfect! Such a peaceful place, perfect for a relaxing break! Car space at the side of the cabin. So, after reading mixed reviews, I can give my own opinions, feel some small things could be done to improve the cabin, a good sweep of the outside veranda would make a huge improvement removing cobwebs from the hot tub area etc, immediate area around the cabin would make it more luxury. Dog friendly cabin but wouldn’t have known, no signs of dog hair or smells. Bedding and towels spotless, the smaller of the 2 shower heads worked well, temperature adjustment just needs a little patience. Needed to put the heating on to dry hot tub gear and after some trial and error it worked a treat! Had a meal at The Lodge, staff were welcoming and burgers and drinks were lovely. We absolutely loved the character of this place and really felt at home during our stay, if there had been availability we would have stayed for a 3rd night. If we get chance to return I would like to try a different lodge as they are all so different but think Otter 4 provided the best views! Thanks Hunters Moon!!!

After vowing not to come back to this site again we decided to give it another go. Location is good, the pod is small but fine, bed was clean and comfy, with view over stream, no oven, just a combo microwave which needed instructions, 2 of crockery and cutlery, the waste bin was dirty. The bathroom needed a good clean, didn’t use shower as it wasn’t clean, grout black, insects and marks on walls, toilet needed 3 flushes! Hooks needed to hang clothes. I understand that leaves fall off trees but the hot tub area was covered, lid needed a scrub, floater had no lid & no cover over filter in hot tub. No hooks on wall to hang towels when in tub. Rusty patio table. However the tub was lovely to relax in. Overall the place needs a good clean, It felt grubby which is a shame as the setting next to stream is lovely and peaceful. If you’re going for fishing the lake/pond is covered in green, I thought it was a lawn when we first pulled up, the smaller pond isn’t covered but still needs a dredge. There just seems to be the bare minimum done all around. Shamefor such a lovely setting, I wouldn’t recommend it to friends and family.

I truly couldn't recommend this place more...we came at Xmas to introduce our new baby to the family and instantly rebooked to come back again this march..same lodge aswell. The lodge is fantastic, everything you need, spacious, clean and it's in such a fantastic location. We all loved waking up early and just watching the woodpeckers, deer etc... We really can't wait to come back again and again as our girl grows.

We stayed in Magpie 1 for 2 nights, some of the furniture is really outdated and needs to be more modern but still nice. Didn’t handle our leaking tap well we felt let down with that they didn’t fix it in the end due to not having a spare key (wasn’t impressed with that) and when we did arrive back they still didn’t come and fix it. The women who handled our complaint was called Charlotte, she did not handle it well and needs re training in customer service. Hot tub is good but not too comfortable and parts of the room were unclean. Would stay again but only if a deal was on, we paid for a last minute deal but it was ment to be nearly £400 without it and we felt it wasn’t worth that.

Arrived today,Otter 2.no central heating, have electric heaters in the lodge but bathroom is cold!Lodge is filthy as seen in these photos!Dust, cobwebs, old food behind sofa, rusty microwave and toaster, stains on mattress!Phoned Charlotte, the manager, the most rudest arrogant person I have ever met!Unfortunately we are stuck here for 3 nights as we have plans to meet family locally.Very idyllic settings, hot tub lovely but needs a total refit, better cleaners and a better manager with better customer service skills!

My husband booked a 3 night stay here for my Birthday, we’ve both had a great time! Cabin was clean and tidy on arrival and had more than we needed (we’ve camped many a time so always pack more than we need). Pub nearby serves excellent food and kitchen and utensils provided are more than adequate to make your own food as well. Plenty to do in the area within a stones throw and a hot tub to enjoy if you fancy staying in - rain didn’t put us off! Overall, it’s quiet, relaxing and is what you make it. I’m writing here because I didn’t have a pen to write in the book which was left in the cabin unfortunately! Huge Thank you to the hosts for having us 🙂
