The Featherbed Inn

We've stayed at many lovely B&Bs in New England, but NEVER have we found two innkeepers who lived into their roles like Mick and Karen! Welcoming, hospitable, energetic, ever-present and full of area recommendations - they're a downright delight to be around. The kitchen is at the center of their inn's experience - inviting, busy and aromatic. Every breakfast is a delicious, locally-sourced creation. This is a true B&B with attentive, conscientious and fabulous hosts. Karen and Mick were very gracious hosts being very welcoming without being overly present. The highlights: for us was the hot tub, kept at a toasty 104 degrees, and the perfect thing after a full day of skiing. The breakfast, which was served at the time of our liking and was nothing like you'd get in most any restaurants, at least not in the Mad River Valley. And if you have a specific request, I'm sure they'd be glad to accommodate you. Three courses and served with a smile and sincere hospitality. Karen and Mick are very tied into the valley and are great guides and a resource for making the most of your visit, from where to ski to where to eat. I cannot complete this review without mention of their recently completed sauna. It is spacious and a gorgeous piece of work appropriately fashioned after a sugar house and comes complete with a cold plunge. The inn was old, but obviously very well cared for and clean, which goes for our room as well. It has a lot of charm. Did I mention the hearth, which was large, well stoked (thanks to Mick's recently acquired blow pipe!) and a cozy place to unwind for the evening. We really enjoyed our stay and felt this property offered a lot for our money. We'll likely be back.

Karen and Mick are the best hosts. They strive to make your experience phenomenal and member able. This was my 2nd trip back and I brought some friends with me. We love the beautiful atmosphere and had an excellent stay. They put in a sauna since my last trip and it was awesome! I have only visited during the winter months and would love to come back in the summer and check out the mountain biking and activities near them. If you have a chance to stay at this lovely location, DO IT! You will love the experience.

This is the best place that we have ever stayed with our son who uses a walker. Mick and Karent treat us like family and are so good to all of us. We appreciate all the hard work they do for the breakfast, the comfy beds, relaxing atmosphere and how much we appreciate their beautiful place. It is hard to describe how much fun we had.

I can’t say enough great things about the Featherbed Inn! From the moment I arrived, the hospitality was above and beyond. As a bigger guy, I tend to eat a lot, and they always made sure I was well-fed—way more than I expected, and every meal was absolutely fantastic. You won’t leave the table hungry here! The sauna was a game-changer after long days on the slopes. It’s one of the best I’ve ever experienced—hot, relaxing, and the perfect way to recover from an epic day of skiing at Sugarbush. Speaking of skiing, the location is perfect for easy access to the mountain, and the conditions were incredible while I was there. The Featherbed Inn truly makes you feel at home, with next-level service, amazing food, and that cozy Vermont charm. If you’re heading to Sugarbush, this is the place to stay!

The Featherbed Inn was an idyllic base for our Vermont Nordic ski getaway in the Mad River Valley area. Karen and Mick were so friendly and welcoming. The room and bath were sparkling clean, and the bed very comfortable. With two living rooms, one with a large fireplace, there is plenty of common space to enjoy, and we appreciate the 5PM libation and cookies - the hot ginger lemon maple toddy was amazing. Breakfasts were 3 courses and fantastic and we enjoyed the communal seating (though there are separate tables as well). They easily accommodated my low gluten request while my husband had no problem as a vegetarian. The Inn is conveniently located to dinner restaurants. The sauna is incredibly built and perfect for after a day of skiing and there is a hot tub as well.. The XC skiing was fabulous- Camels Hump State Park, Rikert Nordic (at Middlebury) and then locally Blueberry Lake- would have liked to explore the Catamount Trail and go up to Von Trapp as well as Ole’s locally but ran out of time. We look forward to coming back to the B&B in the summer with its swimming pond and gardens while enjoying hiking and canoeing and biking.
