Rated as a 4-star hotel, but I would give it a maximum of 3 stars in its current condition. However, it has the potential to get 4 stars with some measures. + Cleaning in the room was very good + The pool area was kept very clean + The outdoor areas to lie down and enjoy were well maintained + Friendly staff in the restaurant and cleaning + The fruit and drink room that can be used by all inclusive guests - Lack of information at check-in. The bags were gratefully carried to the room, but we were not given any introduction to relevant information about the hotel. - The rooms are quite worn. The surfaces need to be refreshed and some furniture replaced. - The bathrooms need to be overhauled. Water flows outside the shower area to the entire bathroom floor and the water flow in the shower and tap is unstable. (However, the bathroom was large and a plus with various shelves to put things on). - Unfortunately, the food did not live up to the standard. Surprised by previous comments that the food would be "fantastic". It may be a matter of taste, but we ate much better and tastier food elsewhere during our stay in Sri Lanka. - The staff in the restaurant were, as I said, friendly, but unfortunately not sufficiently trained in service. No personal criticism of the individuals (who tried to do the best they could), but it is a management mismanagement, which has not trained its staff sufficiently well. There was only one person in the restaurant who clearly knew how to handle service, then you immediately noticed a difference in how "it should be". - The most provocative situation occurred at check-out. First of all, we were greeted by two nonchalant receptionists who giggled (for some unclear reason) while the payment was to be made and barely said "Thank you and Goodbye". Not only that, there was no possibility to book a Taxi through the hotel. I could not believe my ears, so I spoke to another person who knew English a little better, but he confirmed the same thing, i.e. that they cannot book a Taxi for us. "There is poor communication from here, we have to send our cars from Colombo, if you want a taxi". Ok, but maybe you should have informed about this earlier? Unfortunately really lousy, provocative and downright shocking. No, there is a lot to work on, at this hotel, from the management side. Make sure to first and foremost train the receptionists on how to take care of guests. As I said, the restaurant staff were friendly, they just need a little training. Currently, the hotel gets a maximum of 2.5 *, but as I said, it has the potential to be 4 if things are addressed to improve parts of the hotel.

The room was of high quality as we expected. The bed was comfy and clean. The food was hygiene and of many varieties. The service was very friendly. The location in which the hotel was located was accessible. The dinner buffet was enriched with live music. Our room was on sea view that gave a beautiful natural scenery of the beach.

Excellent Getaway Holiday. Of my many trips this year this visit to Mermaid Hotel and Club was memorable and one that gave me and my wife total relaxation. Just one hour from Colombo city. Excellent cuisine crafted by Maestro Chef Gamage. We stayed two nights all dinners breakfast and lunch menus were varied tasty at their best. Very wide buffet spread both eastern and western. The restaurant service too was excellent under the able youthful but bald restaurant manager, the guests were truly pampered jointly by the Chef and Restaurant Manger and staff. Leading this orchestra was the General Manager Thomas Anthony who was present all over the property by which he was able to keep every service operating at its best. The only area where some homework is necessary is the reception where the two ladies are in constant consternation totally oblivious to guest needs. However my final overview is I recommend this hotel as a “ must visit “ destination to both foreign and local travelers and I shall certainly look forward to another stay next year. All the best

Nice place to spend your holiday. We went with our office staff.. Ms sudhara give us great support to reservation process.. it was very easy because of her.. Super service in staff at hotel…very tasty foods.. well organized.. clean.. beautiful room and view… I strongly recommend this mermaid resort for your vacation…

We visited the Mermaid again this year from 13th Sept to 30th Sept with this being our 7th visit. We now go with a feeling of visiting an old friend or family member and in turn that is exactly the way we are treated from the moment we step into the hotel until the moment we leave. I must firstly give special praise to the General Manager Thomas Rodrigo and his leadership team who went above and beyond to make our visit enjoyable and memorable. Since joining the Mermaid last year Thomas was met with a number of challenges in terms of creating the right culture to improve the customer experience and to raise the bar in getting his team to improve and maintain even higher standards than before and I must say that these challenges have been achieved in a very tough economic climate where the smallest margins can make a huge difference. I have to say also that his leadership style has been built on a solid foundation of his ability to listen to his guests and take decisive action in putting measures in place to solve or head off potential future problems before they happen. Having talked about the leadership of the Mermaid I would now like to go into commenting on specific areas of the hotel and give my thoughts about our experience. Reception Experience Always willing to help with a welcoming smile and engaging attitude. We must give a special thanks to Thanuja (Head Receptionist) who led by example and certainly helped to enhance out stay throughout. Rooms Experience The room was always clean and tidy everyday with a real attention to detail in making sure the standard was consistently high. A special thanks must go to Nihal who has his own unique style of room cleaning which is exceptional and very much to our taste. Dining Experience When visiting an old friend, you can certainly expect to be very well looked after and this is where the Mermaid really excels with their expertise in hospitality and attentive delivery. It’s so nice to see that everyone from the head chef to the junior waiting staff are all on the same page in providing a coordinated and flawless customer experience. It’s also nice to see that the menu has been very well thought through to focus on good taste, variety and nutrition whilst considering the potential for waste when using ingredients. I would like to give a special thanks to some of the staff who helped to make our dining experience so memorable but would also extend that to anyone we may have missed. So many thanks to of course Cheeky followed by Wasantha, Sammi, Rasika Hashan, Ishan and we can’t forget PK who brightened up every morning with a smile and special omelette.    Activities Experience This time in particular my wife and I really got involved in a lot more activities as we wanted to get the most out of our stay and I really can’t thank Shevan enough for his professionalism, tireless energy and support in making this part of our holiday so enjoyable especially with all the time we spent playing tab

Calm place to stay for couples and families. Friendly staff. We spent good quality time on our anniversary. Breakfast was amazing and had good spread of foods. Face to sea and good for the people who are looking for a sea bath. Rooms are clean and equipped(safety locker, hair drier, tv etc..) to fulfill the main requirements.

I recently stayed at the Mermaid Hotel and was thoroughly impressed with their customer care. The staff went above and beyond to ensure our comfort and satisfaction. From the warm welcome at check-in to the attentive service throughout our stay, Specially I appreciate the lady in the front desk Thanuja’s excellent hospitality.Every interaction was positive and helpful. The housekeeping team kept our room spotless.
