The castle is a dream. So many loving details, taste and ambience. Very friendly staff. Great breakfast, served at the table. Everything you need. I don't want to repeat the details of the other reviews. With us everything was super clean and well maintained! Unique, beautiful experience!!! The restaurant Gut Matzen is recommended. Just down the stairs once and you're sitting by the castle pond. We were already guests at Schloss Matzen in October 2019 and wanted to repeat the great castle experience on our honeymoon in October 2022. We booked a superior room through an external booking site and asked in advance if it was possible to get our 2019 room. This was declined as we had not booked directly through the hotel and the superior room we requested was not available for guests on the external booking site. This surprised us, since we had also booked through this external booking site in 2019, but we were not yet suspicious. Unfortunately, we had to realize on site that the hotel and the service had suffered significantly during the pandemic. The service staff tries hard, but cannot match the old quality. The reception is only very sporadically manned, it seems as if there is usually only one employee on site who is then on the move throughout the castle, so that there is no employee at the reception when you need him. Our first room was under the roof. Being pregnant I found it very difficult to climb the stairs to the roof, so we asked for a new room. The room exchange was only exceptionally possible, which was repeatedly and clearly pointed out. As part of the room exchange, it was also pointed out that not all rooms in the superior category were available for us, as we had booked through an external booking site. You get the feeling that as a guest you are “2. Class" is treated if you do not book the room directly on the hotel website. The WLAN in our new room did not work, which unfortunately we could only complain about by telephone, since we did not find anyone at the reception at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon. Unfortunately, the problem could not be solved because, according to the employee, our new room is the only room in the hotel where the WiFi signal does not arrive due to the thick castle walls. It should be emphasized that the rooms and bathrooms are very clean and well-kept. One of the service employees asked us to switch from German to English because she still had difficulties with the German language. It was not a problem for us to communicate in English, but in a hotel in Tyrol this request was a bit strange. Despite the bright sunshine and 20°C, the former sun terrace was no longer furnished, which is a pity, since you could comfortably sit in the sun here before the pandemic. Now the only thing left is the seating in the castle courtyard, which is in the shade. In addition, there is actually a direct passage to the café and restaurant Gut Matzen. Unfortunately, the door is now locked, but unfortunately you can only find this out shortly before you reach your destination, so that you then have to go back to the hotel and go around to the café. Very nice castle, we had a secluded room, very romantic, the spa is 30 euros per person. a little pricey but you don't have to. The breakfast is rich and good. ps. A visit to the Gut Matzen restaurant can also lead to disappointment.

I'll try to be brief: after our night in the castle we were rather disappointed. The location is of course unique, but in our opinion it is not used accordingly: - The café belonging to the castle is closed except for breakfast - the wifi didn't work - my request for bed linen without down was really very unfriendly and uncooperative. I am allergic and would have been content with some kind of throw blanket over the bed linen, but I had to take care of that myself - the "rich breakfast buffet" was not a buffet, everything was served except for a few small things, so you couldn't choose, half of them Items were returned and probably thrown away. We found it a bit wasteful. We would have found menus better if you can't make a buffet for fewer guests (Corona). But to praise and then not fulfill is just disappointing. there were also no alternatives for allergy sufferers at all, which is not unusual these days. Not even margarine instead of butter - unfortunately I'm also allergic to milk... - in the wellness area there were no free refreshments (mint water, cucumber water, etc. - would not actually be expensive) and no refreshment (fruit - even if it were only apples). , possibly trail mix) there were other little things but those were the big points. We really expected more. I understand that it's difficult with few guests at the moment, but for the price you can definitely find better hotels. The location alone doesn't make up for things either... oh yes, there was only one employee (from Poland) who you saw or who helped you personally and she was extremely friendly and tried hard! Regarding my bed linen, I had a gentleman on the phone who rejected me very rudely. I suspect the same gentleman then received feedback (email) from me, to which I have of course received no answer to this day. Whatever the reason, we won't come any more anyway and other guests will come anyway....

The castle greets you imposingly from the rock. After entering the castle courtyard, you feel fascinated. After registering by phone (the number is on the castle gate), the Polish employee with a great, positive and friendly demeanor was there for us immediately. We checked in at reception. You can buy drinks from the large refrigerator in the courtyard on a trust basis. Our way to the great room 17 was almost like a guided tour through the castle. We passed the chapel, the very tastefully decorated knights' hall, the library and then into our room, which took our breath away. We couldn't get enough of the beautiful furnishings and details. The luxurious bathroom is much more than just a "commodity". It was almost a shame to go to the restaurant below the castle for 2 hours. But you can look out over the castle from their terrace. The nice, efficient waitress Steffi served dinner skillfully and quickly so that we could soon get back to our room. The only thing if you are not so good on your feet: there is no elevator. Just mention when you make your reservation that there is a room in the courtyard without stairs. But the rooms on the first floor can also be reached with a walking stick, where the chapel, library and knights' hall are also located. It would be a shame not to see these rooms. The hotel simply has a unique, great atmosphere and beautiful castle park. The staff in the castle were all very friendly and accommodating. We also have to mention the very good breakfast - served at the table! Selection of sausage and cheese, smoked salmon and much more, and everything beautifully arranged on plates and platters for the eye to see. We would be happy to come back and look forward to the next time at Schloss Matzen! We don't even want to know what immense costs were incurred in the subtle conversion to today's comfort, while preserving the ambience of the castle. In order to cover costs, the room prices are on the higher side.
