The magic of Vis and the Pomalo Hotel hit me the moment I arrived! My partner and I were greeted in the gorgeous lobby by Dario, the general manager. Incredibly friendly and funny, he offered us cold towels and lemon-spiked ice water as he checked us in and told us about the hotel. Pomalo feels like a cross between the most incredible Airbnb you’ve been to, with all the amenities and services of a luxury hotel. After just 45 minutes unpacking in our gorgeous room overlooking a quiet and picturesque square, my partner and I decided to change our travel plans and stay in the hotel an extra night. Every single detail in the hotel has been lovingly crafted by the owner, Lulu. From the winged sculpture of victory at the top of the staircase, to beach towels and bikes, Lulu has thought of everything. She and her adorable dog Artie greeted us every morning as we drank lattes in the courtyard, from the coffee shop next door. Coffee and croissants are complimentary every morning, but don’t be surprised if Lulu walks to your table with a seasonal fruit plate and warm banana muffins she just finished baking. Every night when we returned from dinner, the courtyard was lit with candles, while music wafted out from the lobby. Our first night at Pomalo, we spent the evening chatting with Lulu and her friend Bruno, a 25-year resident of Vis. He’d wandered over after finishing a day’s work at his leather shop a few doors over, and he regaled us with stories from his past and from his time in Vis. A memory I won’t soon forget! I’ve always been the kind of person who wants to travel to a new destination rather than returning to a place I’ve already been. But Vis is different. The energy and magic of this place, made even better by our time at Pomalo, makes me sure I’ll return someday. Thank you Lulu, Dario, Petra and everyone at Pomalo for making our stay so memorable!
