Hotel la Cartiera

Service was absolute shocking, you wasn’t allowed to breath the minute you got into the hotel the owners dad follows you round telling you shush if you even dare make a notice. They shut the spar and swimming pool and tell you that you’re not allowed to use it if you make a noice the night before and also turn off the Wi-Fi to be spiteful. We then got told we wasn’t allowed to go on the roof top terrace a number of times and they would lock all facility’s so we wasn’t able to access anything. The owners dad is very aggressive and will chase you round shouting at you in Italian for no apparent reason. Would definitely not recommend this hotel to anyone as it’s like being in a prison. Bedtime curfew is 10pm, Nice kiwis though

We stayed at this hotel as our base for a family wedding. It was such a shame as the hotel was nice however, for a group of 20+ visiting and wanting to enjoy time together this isn’t the venue for you. The staff were very accommodating upon arrival (we arrived in two separate groups) and opened a bar on the roof terrace for us. Nobody went ‘mad’ just a few drinks and a chance to socialise together. However, when the second group arrived (albeit the younger members of the family) the attitude to us changed. Everybody just wanted to spend time together, have a few drinks etc. I’ve never been to a hotel where you couldn’t get a drink in the bar after 9:00pm, especially when we were a pre booked wedding party. All doors were locked at 9:00pm which to me and my young family was a health and safety issue. Upon returning from the actual ceremony we were met off the bus and escorted to our rooms. On one occasion the WiFi was turned off and the pool/spa was closed as the younger ones had apparently been too ‘loud’ the previous evening. I can’t say if they were as we were in our room with our young daughter, however, if they were, open the bar so they have somewhere to go. I should add, two of the rooms were on our floor and we didn’t hear ani comings or goings. It was such a shame as this hotel has the potential to be lovely. On a side note, my daughter ‘lost’ her teddy bear in the room. He was a steiff bear and she’d had him since she was born. She never took him out of the room for fear of losing him (he was a mass produced bear so worthless in monetary value however priceless to her) however he disappeared from the room never to be seen again. I asked housekeeping who dismissed me as an inconvenience and although I asked at reception and emailed I feel as though we were not taken seriously at all. My daughter is inconsolable and obviously the bear can’t be replaced. Such a sad end to what should have been such a memorable week for a wedding, not the experience we received. Thankfully we have a great family and we managed to make the most of the week but it’s sad that what should have been an amazing venue let itself down so dramatically. Heaven help them this week week 70+ Scot’s arrive for another wedding!!!
