Hotels near Garden of the Sleeping Giant in Viti Levu

Staff super genuinely kind, friendly and interested in our stay being the best. Delicious food at the restaurant at reasonable prices, fantastic service. Main pool big and well appointed with seating and shade. Kayaks available. Superb sunsets each night on the landing. Very historic location. Check out at 10 am was too early.

Let’s start with that this was a last minute booking as there was no other 7 point or above guest rated accommodation available in Nadi and this is in comparison to many other hotel/resorts that I have stayed-in in the past. Location - It is literally in the middle of no where by Fiji standards. In the middle of Nadi and Lautoka town so take a pick on which direction you want to travel about 25min by car. Hard to find taxi’s as there isn’t a dedicated taxi stand. You will have to call one in for yourself. Resort - Don’t expect a typical big Hotel/Resort style reception. The reception area is a small office at the back of a home opposite the restaurant, like a home office. Room - Room was decent size, clean at a quick glance but not clean enough if want to be critical for the amount you pay for the room. Dusty bits in corners, some places in the shower and toilet area had black spots (didn’t want to find out what it was) especially on the walls, shower track was dirty and tiled floors and walls just needs a good clean. The room was adjoining style with a door separating the two rooms and that was just not enough to keep the conversation next door out of my room. Can’t say the walls were thin as it’s all concrete. The King size bed was of a better quality. I found it weird that it had a flat sheet on top and the doona was initially just thrown in the cupboard. Usually it is fitted with the flat sheet. We used the doona the first day and then there after it was neatly folded away in the cupboard. Didn’t want to find out if the doona covers were changed or not. If you are looking for a place with sandy beach and to swim in the ocean then this may not be it. There is a small beach area (if you can call it that) between mangrove and rocks. You will get a tan but that’s about it. The deal came with breakfast but 1 day of breaky was enough. The selection was minimal and very basic and honestly not worth getting up for. It’s a different case if you don’t have wheels to explore other places. Wifi is not reliable at all and is as slow as it can be. Basic functions are ok in but wanting to stream movies, then forget it. And you will be lucky to get a ok connection in parts of the room. I just believe that tourism in Fiji has just boomed and due to high turnover, there is not enough time to get a thorough clean and maintain in the turn time. This may not be true for main stream or bigger hotel chains where more staff are employed a standard is to be maintained but certainly for the smaller hotel/resorts, it certainly seems to be the case. My verdict - Would I book again if I had a choice, then NO. Would I book again if I had to, then yes as it’s decent but still not worth the prices I have seen online for the establishment. Kudos to staff for going out of their way to make things happen to the best of their ability.

The staff was friendly. We booked a Family Villa through Tripadvisor Plus for 2 nights. Our flight on Fiji air was scheduled to arrive at 6AM in the morning. They held the room for us and it was ready when we arrived at 7AM. Room was ground level. The staff moved us to a Villa closer to the dining and pool because my wife walks with a cane and a shorter walking distance is better for her. Room was clean and spacious. I would stay again.

Immaculate Garden's. Bright clean reception area. A very warm welcome from the staff. Then it goes down hill from there! A dirty stained carpet in the corridors. The room is large, with shabby old furniture and dirty curtains. The bathroom is clean but doesn't look good, as the grouting needs attention. There is a dirty area to make your tea/ coffee...covered over by a tray!! There is a safe, hairdryer, iron and ironing board. The air con unit is dirty. Bed is comfy but sheets have marks on them. Breakfast is very good, except weekends. When it is overrun by outside families coming in!! The pool also has screaming kids running around and jumping in....its bedlam. Avoid weekends. I would give the lovely staff 5 out of 5 but the room just scrapes a 3 out of 5. Shame the room is such a letdown. We liked the little village 5 mins walk away, try Blue Ginger cafe. There is a food court in the little Mall. Go out of the hotel, turn left, left again. There is a supermarket with a bakery attached. Lovely pizzas, eat in or takeaway for $15. For us, we would not stay at Tanoa again, we expected better.

We had a great stay. Staff was friendly and accomodating to our needs including carrying out heavy luggage up and down 3 flights of stairs. They even allowed our visitors in which I find very rare. They also carried our food up to our balcony which was great. We had the Sunset suite at the very top - awesome view! Our room was nice and clean, super nice air con in the room and lounge area. Really nice kitchen area with a massive new fridge. Very convenient with the supermarket up the road and beachfront to chill. The ocean was sooo nice and hot to swim in. Downfall: Some of the levels smell like damp, wet carpet and was really bad . Some of our dishes were so dirty and their were cockroaches in the toaster, microwave and jug. Would be great to have a volley ball net on the beach and some activities on offer for guests such as horse riding & snorkelling etc. Also some entertainment would be great as the music next door was the only entertainment we got but sometimes it was far too loud that we couldn’t sleep. There was no fire show or kava ceremony and we were looking forward to that! The food at the ghost ship bar was really good especially the pizza and curry dishes! Be good if reception could help guests find the best taxi prices as some Of the locals that stand on the road really take advantage of travellers and charge you the world. We did have a great stay in the end! I would recommend this if you want to stay near town, the airport and want to experience outside of Denarau. Denarau did get boring for me sometimes so I liked this experience this time around.

The website photos makes this look like a luxe stay but the bures have a tired, worn-out feel and need a lot of maintenance. I suspect the pictures were taken fifteen years ago when the resort opened and not much upkeep has been done since. The floors are faded and scratched - a simple refinishing would go a long way. The structure has apparently settled as there are gaps in the joints and the bathroom ceiling sags. Speaking of the bathroom, the shower head has corroded out in a few places and delivers a seriously inconsistent spray. Design-wise, the water closet is too small: everything is based on one-meter squares and it's smaller than an airplane toilet. (I hit my head on the door every time I sat down on the toilet). The water heater for our bure is much too small (probably 100 litres) and running out of hot water was the norm. Also no showers back-to-back, the heater needs recovery time. While the photos show all of these wide-open doors to let the outside in, when we suggested it the staff said it was a bad idea because of all the mosquitos. They also helpfully suggested that we don't take a walk to the beach down the road as a number of guests have been robbed while walking down the road. I'm not sure how the website can claim that the bures are 860 square feet; the interior space is 4x8 meters (344 sq feet) and including the outside verandah, the size is 52 sq meters (560 sq feet). Maybe the footprint of the canvas roof is 860 square feet but claiming that as the size of the bure is quite a stretch. On the positive side: The grounds are beautiful, the staff was very helpful and the food was quite good. If the owners had just taken six months of the COVID shutdown to perform some routine maintenance, and if the grounds were in a safer location, this would have been an easy recommendation. As it is, we wouldn't return and I wouldn't recommend it to friends...

Its business suites - includes kitchen and laundry in room. Always great to have these services. Beach isnt much, think walk along rather than swim. This is one of 3-4 hotels in a row beachfront. Guests primarily those passing thru to islands, backpackers and groups. The hotels’ beachfront bars were quiet during week in May but came alive for weekend. Restaurant on top floor had great views. Service very slow in restaurants of all these hotels. Staff very helpful and friendly.

Transportation: From vuda Marina, the hotel provides free pick-up and drop-off. Going to other places needs to communicate with the island owner. The boss is super enthusiastic. Going to cloud9 also found his friends to send us. Although the boat to cloud9 is not good, it is very exciting (500fjd a boat) Hygiene: Health is still very clean, Sapporo is around the island after snorkeling, you will bring a lot of sand to the bed. Environment: The environment is great, the beach on the front of the hotel is very garbage, but the beach on the other side of the island is very good. Focus! Focus! Focus! Snorkeling around the island can see turtles, and luckily you can see ”friendly” sharks! Service: Service top! After the explosion of Shangri-La brand hotel (brand hotel is a lot of people, the service staff is not very enthusiastic, even ordering is not positive, water is not given). The service staff on the island will even remember your name to say hello. When there are many people, there are kava welcome parties and bonfire parties. It makes people feel that all aspects are served very thoughtfully. After returning to the main island, the hotel will arrange for you to rent. We emphasized that we have to play the watch (the driver who does not play the watch is slaughtered indiscriminately), the taxi from vuda Marina to Shangri-La hotel is less than 80 dollars, but from Shangri-La to the airport is slaughtered indiscriminately by brand hotel 120 dollars. Advantages: warm service, super enthusiasm, few people in the island, can play alone on the beach, the island is very quiet, the water around the island is also very good, there are many fish and turtles Disadvantages: There are many free activities (boating, paddleboarding) that need to be consulted by yourself. There are no bright corals nearby. The brunch is relatively simple. Wi-Fi is not good.

Usaia is the best employee here. His unbelievable service made my honeymoon perfect and fantastic. He recommended and taught me lots of information here in Sheraton and Fiji. Actually, we were only one Asian couple, so everything was too new for us, but bying talking with Usaia, he made us feel relaxed and better. I highly recommend Sheraton because of Usaia and his service. Thank you, Usaia. We had a great stay at the Fiji Gateway hotel! The rooms were clean and in great condition and the showers had excellent water pressure and plenty of hot water - perfect for helping us relax as we continued our trip. As opposed to other hotel rooms in Fiji, the air conditioning worked great and the safe in the room was in good working condition - something that is always important for protecting your valuables and travel documents. This was a perfect place for us to stay when we had to fly out of Nadi airport for our flight to the island of Taveuni. On this night, we ate at the restaurant which had excellent, friendly staff and good food. But the thing we remember the most about this hotel were the 2 live musicians Igenasio and Joape who play in the bar and restaurant. During our meal, I kept pausing and saying to my wife, ”listen to this awesome music”! Just about every day for the rest of our trip I kept saying to my wife, ”did I say how awesome those musicians at the Fiji Gateway hotel were?” On our final night in Fiji, just before we went to Nadi airport, we went back to the Fiji Gateway hotel to see if Igenasio and Joape were playing in the restaurant and bar area. Guess what? They were! I was beyond excited to see them and told them that we came back to the hotel just to find them. They did not disappoint and played 2 songs that we requested as well as songs requested by others. They are a great duo and they complement each other with their lead singing and harmony. We'll always remember this final night in Fiji at the Gateway Hotel!
