With a group we had a quick guided stroll through the small vineyards of Mazzorbo. We had hoped for more information. Known as the Venisssa Estate, it is a fenced vineyard growing a type of grape native to the island of Venice known as dorona. Long ago the great island of Venice was covered with this and other crops before the inhabitants of Torcello, Burano and Mazzorbo decided to start building their houses and palaces there.

Venissa Wine Resort was wonderful in all respects: the lovely room, the bed & sheets, the grounds, the helpful staff, the tasty osteria, the lovely wines and amazing story of the Dorona grape. It was a beautiful setting and an easy walk to Burano. Mostly, it was a welcome calm after the crowds and jostling of Venice.

My husband and I stayed at Venissa the last night of our 2-week vacation in Italy, I am STILL patting myself on the back for booking this wonderful hotel. It was just what we needed after 2 weeks of crowds in Rome, Florence and Venice. Venissa is so very special in every way...from the stellar service of the front desk, to the amazing breakfast, to the beautiful setting, to the INCREDIBLE restaurant (we had dinner there and it was a very memorable, special evening). 5 stars everywhere! We had a delightful lunch on a warm Sunday in their beautiful space. The tasting menu was delicious. A multi course of locally sourced ingredients from in and around the Venetian Lagoon. There was no meat and frankly not missed. Some really clever tricks of textures and fermentation made up for that. Highly recommended.

Venissa is beyond 5 star ... I keep returning to this place away from the over touristed Venice city centre . From the excellent service , the fabulous restaurants , the unique wine produced in the walled garden to the beach on the Lido just two Vaporetto stops away , Venissa has it all. Venissa and it's sister property Casa Burano are so special . If you are a family I would recommend Casa Burano as there is more space for family members to hang out , and the 5 minute walk over to Venissa over a footbridge and into the secret garden makes breakfast special . Enrico and all staff are so helpful and knowledgeable and they make Venissa the most fabulous place to visit .

We learned about Venissa while doing some research about the neighboring island of Burano. Although we did not have a wine tasting booked, Luca graciously escorted us to the wine bar where he explained the history of the vineyard, the differences in the two wines that are produced and offered us a tasting. It was a wonderful little excursion and waling through the vineyard and garden was very pleasant as well. I would recommend booking a lunch or dinner at their restaurant as well.

From start to finish, from the moment the water taxi docks right outside of Venissa's door, your dream vacation awaits! From the beautiful, large, clean and modern appointed rooms, to the fabulous restaurants, gorgeous grounds and wonderful experiences, your stay at Venissa will be a trip to remember, and to long to return to. We found out about this hidden gem thanks to Stanley Tucci's show Searching For Italy...and our stay here exceed our expectations in every way. While much quieter than the hustle and bustle of Venice, the peace and serenity of the island of Mazzorbo was such a pleasant surprise. An easy walk across the bridge at the end of the property brought you to shopping and other dining options on the island of Burano, and you could easily take a water taxi to other islands, but I would be content to stay at Venissa forever! Thank you to the staff for all that you did to make us feel so well taken care of.
