Albergo San Marco

We have stayed here previously, before the refurb and were very pleasently surprised. The refurb was excellent throughout the hotel. Our room was modern, clean and spacious. New bathroom, with only one quibble, the shower cubicle could have beed a little larger, but we understand that there are space restrictions. Air-con in the room was easily controllable. Nice clean bedding and plenty of pillows. Totally revamped breakfast / dining room. Breakfast was excellent with a good choice including bacon and eggs, cakes, cheeses, fruit, bread and croisants, salad and a good selection of tea and coffee. No rushing guests out, have a nice leisurely breakfast, which we did every morning. The girls in the breakfast room were very professional and polite, and friendly. They also provide dinner on an evening, and there were always guests sat in there. We booked in a little later than anticipated, and the front of house guy, Amin was very understanding, friendly and professional. Couldn't fault him in any way. Check-out was easy and we left our luggae until mid-afternoon. We found the cost of the hotel very reasonable especially when you take into account the location, 2 minutes from St Mark's Square. We would recommend this hotel over and over again. Thank you for a lovely stay, and we are booking again for end of August 2025.

Do not believe the pictures. They look great, but condition of rooms is very poor. Lumpy bed, stained on almost every surface of walls/doors etc.. Blinds don’t work, shower pressure constantly changes and runs hot and cold randomly. Bed blanket dusty and no good if you are susceptible to allergies. Mattress very old. Housekeeper starts before 7am and very noisy. Air conditioning noisy, but hardly works. Location great though and breakfast good in restaurant. Beware: There are two SanMarco hotels close by. Both have different names officially, but they aren’t often confused. Albergo Cavalletto e Dodge Orseolo is the one most have reviewed here. The other also next to St Marco Square is Hotel Royal San Marco.

I stayed here for 2 weeks for my birthday and enjoyed my stay. I received a lovely handwritten birthday message with a bottle of prosecco...a wonderful gesture and so appreciated. Comfortable stay and a quiet room with a window overlooking the canal. You have to lean out the window and down to see the gondolas going through. The actual view is of a building on the other side of the canal. The hotel is in a great location and being central it was easy to walk everywhere. I would recommend to put down that map and casually walk around and you'll always get to a bridge or the canal...and stop into the odd cafe or restaurant enroute. There were a couple of hiccups the first couple of days but the staff really helped and sorted out the slow air-conditioning and placed a kettle in the room. Everything was comfortable afterwards. Booked 2 rooms for a family of 4 people. My parents stayed in the room next to us and the AC in their room was not working. Similar problem had another group of friends staying in different room. Venice reaches 35-40 degrees celsius in Summer which is very hot and cannot cope without the AC. The stuff were polite, but not very helpful. Also there was a problem with the shower which was constantly changing from hot to cold. We paid in total €320 for a single night and I feel having problems with the AC is unacceptable for that amount of price.
