The location is in the center of the old city, convenient for travel, and the room is nice. The only trouble is that it is an affiliated hotel with a hotel not far away, and when checking in, you have to go to that hotel to register, and then come back to this hotel to check in, which is a bit inconvenient.

Very good for an ideal summer vacation. A beautiful island and fresh air

The hotel is in the center of Valletta. The service is very good, but the room is relatively small. There is a food street downstairs. The living functions are good, but it is a bit noisy at night.

The hotel service was beyond expectations, the Michelin restaurant downstairs, and the prices were fair.

We were welcomed at the reception of this beautiful boutique hotel with a lovely cold glass of Prosecco. Perfect! The hotel is set right in the heart of Valletta. The location is fantastic and although on a busy street, we did not hear any outside noise from our room. It is easy walking distance of Valletta’s attractions, as well as the bus station and ferry port for Gozo. The room had all the amenities we required including a fridge, kettle and coffee maker. The bed was comfortable and the room was clean and modern. All staff we met were very friendly and helpful. The breakfast is amazing with a great choice of hot drinks, juices, fruits, meats, cheeses, pastries and eggs cooked to your liking. All served to you at your table by friendly, attentive staff. Thanks for a great stay.

They are LIARS. They post Reserve NOW PAY LATER, but that isn't the case at all. They try and take the money shortly after you book the reservation. We are ok with that, but don't post lies and attempt to deceive people. What is the purpose to draw in people for a quick bait and switch? We are honest, and we don't make up untrue stories for reviews. We gain nothing by doing that, we have proof, but we are going to spare you by not providing the name of the person who did this.

A superb experience from arriving to departure. Rooms are spacious, well designed, spotlessly clean and the bed, perfect. Breakfast is a real treat as well. The team at the hotel make this property work so well and we felt valued from check in to check out. Prosecco on arrival, a butler to advise on where to visit on the island and accompanied to the room to show the amenities off. We were early for check in and we left our luggage in reception, and called when the room was ready. Overall, a well executed hotel with excellent staff who genuinely do care about their guests. Thank you. We will be back.

This hotel was brilliant never have we been looked after so well, couldn't improve on the staff the food was excellent position perfect. Wouldn't go back to Malta u fortunately it had got worse since our last visit 8years sgo due to the 10 000 a d 6000 person cruise ships that arrived it was hell so over crowded thank god for our great hotl

The staff are exceptional & run this hotel with pride and an abundance of kindness …we stayed for a week a it was our honeymoon, our room itself we were disappointed with very retro and suitable for a buisness stay, but not a relaxing room it had no natural light which we found depressing and only one single wardrobe and 2 drawers for clothes it was very impractical and when in the room we had to have all the lights on as it was so dark the only window looking out onto the hallway on the first floor, it was not a cheap holiday so all in all we were upset when we saw our room & the noise not always a negative impart but it was on some occasion, we didn’t go for breakfast as wanted to explore different places but also never realised we would have to go 2 buildings down to have breakfast ..to the sister hotel… we would not return it is a lovely hotel with lovely staff but sadly it’s not for us

The St John Ax is a very central hotel located in a beautiful traditional Maltese building. We were greeted with Prosecco and given lots of information about Malta and recommended restaurants to try from the very knowledgeable Amal and Rose. We were in room 101 (front of hotel). Huge traditional beamed ceilings, original tiles and a Maltese balcony. Massive bedroom area, large modern bathroom and a huge entrance area with seating. It was superb. We did not have any noise issues at all. It was cleaned immaculately daily by Arun who was so lovely. The staff were all so friendly and welcoming. The breakfast was plentiful and delicious. Damanpreet and Rohit met us with a smile every morning for breakfast. The breakfast team (Marie and Maridol too ) are a credit to Katho the Supervisor. The roof terrace was fabulous with loungers, seating areas, bar and plunge pool with views to the sea. Would highly recommend this hotel for its style, service, staff and location.

Ideally located in the central of Valletta, it is a lovely building and nicely renovated. We were in room 405, which is a suite with two bedrooms and two bathrooms, ideal for a family. It was towards the back of the hotel and a courtyard room. No view but that sacrifice meant that it wasn’t noisy at all from any street traffic. The room was clean, tidy and came with water, tea, coffee and even a few welcome small bottles of wine. We can’t praise the staff enough, from our check in at Rosselli, their sister hotel, through to check out all the staff we met were friendly, accommodating and professional. Breakfast at Rosselli restaurant, Grain Street, was excellent with good options and freshly cooked. Again, staff were fantastic. We also had the use of facilities at Rosselli, which included a small gym (not used!) and a roof top bar and plunge pool, which was very relaxing with plenty of space and shade. Ideal for a rest and a cocktail after a long day visiting the sites. Anytime I return to Valletta I would aim to stay here, made our stay so much more relaxing.

An absolutely perfect hotel - amazing location, gorgeous rooms and bathrooms, wonderful roof terrace (on sister hotel where you have breakfast) but what sets it mile and miles apart from anywhere I've ever stayed is the STAFF!! The attention to detail was on another level - from advice on where to go and when was the best time to do so, remembering my favourite cherry cake for breakfast rather than pastries (Damanpreet, Maria and Katho = the dream breakfast team!), big smiles, proactive engagement in all aspects of our stay. Shout out to the wonderful Arun who chatted about politics and cricket whilst making our room sparkling. On top of all of that the sweetest of cherries on top - the outstanding concierge Amal. If only we could take him on all our holidays. He made every day even sunnier than the sun and our luxurious fabulous holiday was made even more beautiful because of him. He is a priceless asset to the company and must be treasured!! Thank you Amal (and everyone) - make sure you get to Gozo!!!

A very quet, comfortable and clean room. A very large bed, air conditioning was nice and quiet, and a bathroom with a rain shower. Add a safe for valuables, a mini-fridge which kept things cool, and very well located for Valletta. Breakfast is in an adjoining hotel (in the same chain) but a very short walk. Staff work hard, breakfast options are great, with the continental coming on a tower a little like afternoon tea! Gluten free options were available. In short if you want a base for Valletta you can't go far wrong with the AX St John as your choice.
