I felt like I was in a fairy tale in this lovely, charming old hotel. Even royalty loved it! Our room, reportedly the queen's favorite room, was simple and comfortable and looked out at the fjord. The public areas are cozy and pretty and we liked drinking tea by the fire and watching the ferries and occasional cruise ships in the fjord. Bjorn, the manager was so helpful, witty and genuinely enjoys his job. Breakfast was typical Norwegian with breads, meats, cheeses, fruits, eggs. Dinners, cooked by Bjorn were delicious. So easy to get to, a few steps from the [extremely quiet] ferry. A few shops within a block or two. Many easy walks and more challenging hikes begin from the hotel.

Nice location. The dinner was good with an interesting wine package if wanted. The breakfast was excellent ! The staff is friendly and helpful. The decor is old-fashioned giving a specific atmosphere in the hotel. The room (a historic one with garden view) was quite small. So, ok for a one or two-night stay at the most.

Stayed here just one night on our way down to Trolltunga. Lovely older hotel in an absolutely idyllic and tranquil setting. The dinner was lovely but the breakfast was only "okay." The staff had many guests on their hands but even so at times it felt like we were intruding and the hospitality was not quite as strong as everywhere else we have visited in Norway.

Magic stay at a great hotel with fantastic food experience. Both breakfast and dinner was very tasteful and based on local ingredients. Friendly Staff and a Chef that passionately shared his cooking philosophy and recipes. Also recommends to visit some of the local Cider makers during your stay.

A simple, charming, small, traditional family-run hotel on the edge of Hardangerfjord. Bedroom was ok, although the bed was very soft, with a strange mattress / topper arrangement. Bathroom (shower, no bath) was good. Fjord-view rooms look out over the terrace (noisy until 2300/2330) and the ferry docking station, which is noisy when a ferry arrives/departs - the first is 0630 during the week, 0730/0830(Sat/Sun). The rest of the time, it’s very quiet. But great views of the fjord! Breakfast buffet is good, although no hot dishes offered. Dinner is very good indeed. Wi-fi works ok. Overall, a nice little hotel for a couple of nights. But the price is ridiculous. It’s a simple, 3-star hotel. But there are not many options in the area.

Staying at this 300 year old historic hotel was a dream come true. The surrounding beauty and lovely accommodations made this a top memory of our Norway trip. The rooms were impeccable and even with the windows open sleep was easy on the comfortable bed. We really enjoyed the five course meal for dinner where the service and food was impressive. We learned that Edvard Grieg stayed here many times, wrote music, and played the piano . We wished we could of stayed longer. Maybe we will return some day to this gem of a hotel!

A journey through time, a building from 1722 in a small village on the fjord, small but comfortable room, excellent restaurant and truly excellent breakfast with quality products. To achieve perfection, the windows should have blackout curtains, at least those facing east like ours as the sun hits the bed directly and the curtains are not enough to guarantee sleep, at least for those who like to sleep in the dark. Apart from this detail I highly recommend it.
