Property Description
Explora in the Sacred Valley of the Incas was designed as a headquarter from where to explore a remote and great destination: Cusco, Machu Picchu and the Sacred Valley of the Incas. Our lodge is within walking distance of the traditional village of Urquillos, a tiny settlement in which countless traditions are kept alive year-round by a lively and proud local community. The 50 rooms have views of the cornfields and mountains. They were covered in wood and have cozy touches in the decoration, which transform them into a unique place to disconnect and enjoy the destination. The gastronomic experience in Explora Sacred Valley of the Incas was developed exclusively by the renowned Peruvian chef Virgilio Martínez, owner of the world’s number one restaurant in the world, according to The World’s 50 Best Restaurants 2023 ranking. Our cuisine is inspired by the Andes and its diversity of products, ingredients and traditions. Through it, we want each of our travelers to deeply connect with the territory we inhabit and live a unique gastronomic experience in the Valley. Our Spa Pumacahua Bath House is a colonial house from the seventeenth century located on one side of the hotel’s corn terraces. Rescued by our restoration and archaeology team, it contains the hotel Spa where our guests can enjoy massages, the swimming pool, hot tubs and saunas. Please note that some of our rates include transfers, accommodations, food, drinks and daily explorations.

We were able to stay six nights at Explora Valle Sagrado, which meant we could sample a wide variety of "explorations" as they call their daily excursions. All of the guides were extraordinary, and all of the hikes were great, but a few things really stood out. In particular, the full-day "Ayni" exploration into the highlands was a highlight, where we spent a day with the local community, participating in their daily activities, including a hike up to their local "apu" where we had a small spiritual celebration, helping with some hoeing of a field, visiting with the guinea pigs, watching a fascinating alpaca wool dying, and finally enjoying a delicious meal. Another highlight was the full-day hike across the Maras plateau, having unique vantage points on the somewhat mysterious circular platforms of the Moray archaelogical site, and of the 1000s of pools of the Salineras salt mine. Finally, on our last morning in the Sacred Valley, we visited Ollantaytambo, and got to see the extraordinary stone construction techniques perfected by the Inca people, building walls that have stood for centuries, using huge interlocking stones fitted together perfectly without any mortar.

My stay at Explora exceeded my expectations! The accommodations, shared spaces, food, guides, staff... all fantastic! At the end of each day, you sit with a guide to plan the outing for the following day, tailored to your interest and activity level. Every "exploracion" was great! Explora gets all the stars!

We had a wonderful time at Explora. The hotel’s concept, built around exploration and conservation, is one of the best ways to discover the incredible beauty of Valle Sagrado. We spent five nights here, but honestly, we could have stayed ten and still wanted more. Everything at Explora runs so smoothly, with thoughtful internal processes that just make sense. We did six explorations, and each one was incredible. There’s no better way to experience this stunning area than with Explora. What really makes Explora special, though, is the staff. You can tell they are well cared for, and it shows in the way they care for guests. We felt an amazing connection with our guide, Giuliano. Whether on easy walks or challenging hikes, he made every moment meaningful. His deep knowledge, warm personality, and constant attention to our safety were outstanding. We’ve traveled all over the world and met many guides, but Giuliano is truly one of a kind—professional, passionate, and kind-hearted. Matias, the manager of explorations, was also wonderful, always helping us plan our activities with enthusiasm and care. Another highlight was Gabriel at reception, whose friendliness and helpful attitude made our stay even more enjoyable. In short, the hotel is beautiful, the concept is meaningful, but the staff is what sets it apart. They make the experience truly special, and we’ve never felt this kind of connection at any other hotel.

Outstanding trip! The resort is beautiful, the staff are phenomenal, the guides knowledgeable and professional, and the food delicious! Lots of activities from which to choose and great menu choices. Rooms are beautifully decorated. The grounds of the resort and surrounding views of the Andes are spectacular! Highly recommend staying here.

Excellent accommodation with world class dining and personalized tours. We stayed in a standard room which offered a great view of the mountains and had a lot of storage space. The menu was designed by the chef of Centrale and adds his style to some more classic Peruvian dishes. Tours were either private or small group and the guides were very knowledgeable.

This was the most fabulous experience. The accommodations, food and guest services were outstanding. The guides were so knowledgeable, generous with their time and genuinely interested in ensuring your hike/outing was what you wanted. Each evening we met with a guide to pick out an appropriate hike/outing for the next day. The guides were very helpful in advising us on how to avoid/minimize the effects of the high altitudes. We stayed for 4 nights. My only regrets was not staying one more day just to relax and enjoy the amenities that that resort has to offer.

This is non-fussy luxury. Staff and guides were so sweet and helpful. Even the drivers were kind. Accommodations were quite nice, including comfy robes and linens. The massages were great and the food interesting, local, organic, and delicious. Only ask would be for a few more hiking options. Also, one of us got a stomach virus, and we were told the closest doctors were in Cusco, which was just a little nerve wracking.

Explora embodies a perfect combination of hospitality and trekking experience. The modern architecture of this resort combines elegance with the unique atmosphere of the Sacred Valley. The warm hospitality of the staff, the expertise of all the guides and the delightful epicurean experience make this resort an excellent destination. We’ve been to 2 other Explora locations and we have been amazed at how consistent this experience has been.
