Royal Hotel

Some friends and I were travelling around Scotland and one of the places we stayed was the royal hotel Ullapool, while the hotel is situated overlooking the bay and the rooms were fine, the food left a lot to be desired, we ordered Steaks for dinner, one well done and two medium, all came well done, so we returned two and asked for two medium steaks, a short time later a waiter came and explained that this is the way the chef cooks medium steaks and as we were sitting by a window, it was a trick of the light that we thought they were over cooked, incredulous , I asked for the chef to come and explain this trick of the light to me, obviously he or she never came, we waited for over half an hour for the new steaks to arrive and they were rare, well we decided to eat them rather than send them back again and wait another half hour, but not a great experience, the very least you expect when you order steaks is that the so called chef can actually cook them to order. The breakfast wasn't much better.

Nice modern hotel with good parking area. Nice outlook to sea. Very comfy bed / pillows. Nice breakfast and bar. Arrival of a cruise ship added some interest in the newly revamped harbour Area. The Loch Seaforth ferry to Stornoway is a super boat to do some sea life watching from. CalMac staff all superb.

Cannot fault this hotel. Check in was very easy. Room was very clean and of a reasonable size. We had the added bonus of our own private balcony overlooking the loch. The bed was very comfortable. Breakfast was excellent too. Overall very good value money and would certainly stay again.
