Itza Hotel Akumal

Eduardo and all of the staff were super friendly. The room and bathrooms were spotless. The kitchen has everything you need to cook. Restaurants and stores are within walking distance. You can rent a bicycle to go to the South side of the overpass to the lagoon.

Super lovely, quiet, clean, and comfortable hostel. It was my first night of real rest once I made the decision to switch from another hostel in the neighborhood. The staff is so lovely, breakfast was very fresh and filling. I booked for one night and ended up staying three.

This is an affordable location, walking distance to the beach (15 minutes?) and the animal sanctuaries. Very close to the colectivos that zip you to Tulum or Playa. Definitely not “touristy” Mexico— this is where the people working in the resorts etc live. Seemed safe, a good restaurant around the corner (El Ultimo Maya). The rooftop area and pool were lovely and the free breakfast was both a surprise and lovely (great fruit plate and my 12 year old loved the hotcakes). Very clean. Safe in room for valuables. AC and ceiling fan and screened windows for all ambient temperature preferences. TV with States programming (Netflix, Disney). Being in the pueblo (town), it is a tad noisy (dogs, music) but this calms down later in the night. Big thunderstorm with lightning took out the electricity all over town— glad I had packed flashlights! (It came back on 2 hours later, but it was DARK, so word to the wise, pack a flashlight!). Great owners who are concerned about your comfort. Friendly neighborhood street dogs come to visit in the lobby. Kitchen and fridge access if you want to cook your own meals, and purified water available (free).

Excellent hotel, super friendly staff, highly recommend

I stayed 5 nights at the ITZA hostel and I cannot fault my stay. All the staff were very friendly and helpful, Clarissa and Fernando catered to all my requests and questions about Akumal and the surrounding area. The hostel was very clean, secure and well equipped. The owners were very friendly and assisted my requests for excursions. I would highly recommend staying here if you are in Akumal.

Very good hotel, not overpriced and in a couple of minutes you walk to the beach! The hotel is very clean & everything is brand new. The staff is really nice and the manager will help you with everything. Breakfast is good, you don’t have many choices but what you get is fresh & very good! If you are in Akumal you should go to this hotel. In the area, you can walk out of the street there are some good restaurants.
