Gem Holiday Beach Resort

Booked this hotel having stayed there before. This time we were upgraded to the Kalinago Hotel next door at no extra charge. Both are located on a small idyllic beach with beach-side bars serving drinks and food. Reception staff friendly, helpful and efficient. Absolutely pure Caribbean atmosphere.

The hotel is right across from the more private Mourne rouge beach and you have a choice of restaurants. We had a garden view, fully equipped apartment that was spacious and included a balcony with partial view of the sea. Our garden view included some neighboring goats which was pleasant to watch them feed on grass. The best thing about this venue is how accommodating, pleasant, and friendly the staff is. Ms Julia, Ms Kathleen, and the other woman who's name I can't recall, thank you for looking after our requested needs. God bless you and your families 🙏🏽.

Lovely staff especially Lauren my housekeeper. Also the staff in the restaurant and the chef and the manager. Food was lovely and the beach was amazing. Breakfast was beautiful too. I could go on!!! Only downfall is the outdated furniture, it really needs updating. But other than that it’s a lovely place to stay.

Needs a lot updated and repairs. Nothing seems to be working in the villa. We had called several times about equipment not working. The only nice thing about the resort ocean review is that the cleaners were family and staff. The resort is dar from town and the up to the resort is very bad.

I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND STAYING HERE! For the following reasons: 1. Location The location is far from local amenities such as supermarkets, shops etc so if you dont drive you will have to spend ALOT of money on taxis. However the hotel is right on the beach which is a positive. 2. Facilities/ Value for money The facilities are not up to standard for how much they charge. You are better off going to another hotel. The rooms are outdated aswell as the appliances.( I booked a self catering villa) the bath was dirty, hair drier and phone was not working, the cabinets and doors were chipped. Furthermore there was no light in the fridge. You dont get no liquid hand soap just some small bars of soap. The pans provided stick when cooking and are in bad condition. The place really needs updating! 3. Entertainment There's no entertainment except a little steel pan for a few hours. so if entertainment is your thing you're better off going to another hotel resort. 4. Staff Generally the staff were good however the manager of the hotel was unsympathetic to the fact that we were charged so much even though the place is substandard. I raised this with the manager and was told " this is what it is and that we knew before we came" and also when I raised the fact that the phone in the room was not working, i was told " everyone has cell phones". The manager just wants your money and doesn't care about the state of the place. We were overcharged by one of their receptionists and told we would receive an invoice. Days passed and never got it. Had to chase them for that. 5. Airport transfer The guy they have doing airport transfer called Dexter, was 30mins late and was driving dangerously. He was rude, clearly had road rage and should not be driving guests! After having a nice holiday then being driven to the airport by someone like him is a not good.

Clean and tidy resort with access directly to the beach. Large fridge freezer in the kitchenette. Lorraine's customer care attentiveness was exemplary. We forgot our computer charging cable when we checked out and she went the extra mile to make sure that it was forwarded to our onward destination. I would go there again which is something I don't often say.

We are what the staff call "repeaters" having stayed at The Gem every 5 years starting in 1998 coinciding with the anniversary of Operation Urgent Fury which I participated in. Major shout outs to Kathy at the bar and Laureen our housekeeper. The room was kept spotless the entire week we were there. It's always great to be welcomed by people that know us. It makes The Gem our home away from home and the people are what makes it that way. We have never traveled anywhere so inviting and warm. It's also very safe and secure with on site security at night.

In July, I spent a couple nights at the hotel on a solo trip. I was a little anxious at first based on the reveiws, but decided to go ahead with my booking due to the proximity of my favourite beach in Grenada, BBC. I was not disappointed with my decision. My room was clean and comfortable with a decent view of the beach. However, the most pleasureable was the interaction with the office staff, Kezi, Lorraine and Ms. Moore who had pleasant and inviting personalities. The beach, as usual, was fantastic. I only purchased one meal from the restaurant on the Friday; a Wings special together with a virgin pina colada. The wings were delicious; however the drink was not the best. The attendant however was very friendly as were the ladies who cleaned my room. My one annoyance was at intervals, there were loud noises from children in one of the rooms nearby. Thankfully, this did not go on too long. I would certainly return again in the future, once able to.

The rooms are little dated and worn, but the price is right. Bed and air conditioning were wonderful. Beautiful and peaceful, uncrowded beach just outside the front door. Hotel staff were friendly and accommodating. Wifi worked throughout the property.
