Hotel Porta Nigra

The hotel is very close to the Porta Nigra, but so are a few others. I very much regret not selecting one of those. On arrival we were charged extra for breakfast although it was clearly stated on our reservation, breakfast was included in the agreed price. But the worst thing was the room itself: Bathroom, toilet and bedroom in one, i.e. with no door to close between the toilet and the rest of the facilities. Something like a police detention cell - or storing beds in the washroom. The double bed was pushed up against one wall to make access difficult and the escape map on the inside of the entrance door belonged in another room on another floor. All in all a big disappointment, definitely not worth the Price.

Stayed 3 nights, the hotel is spotlessly clean and perfectly situated close to town centre but other than that very average. We were on the top floor which meant sporadic hot water when showering if indeed you got water at all. Breakfast standard continental and could not cope with volume of guests on Sunday. Recommend taking breakfast locally at half the price. Secure parking in a garage was a bonus at 9€ per night.

I booked this hotel in July for a 1 night stay on New Year's Eve 2016. We were due to arrive at the hotel around 6 pm, as we had a long drive from Austria. We arrived at 18:20, the hotel was in darkness, the doors were locked, a couple walked out of a side door, I asked if they were staying in the hotel. They were, I explained that we had a reservation at the hotel and they led me to a sign where there was a number to ring for out of hours emergency. I rang the number , a man answered, I informed him of our situation. He asked me for a reservation number and then he said we had no reservation and there were no rooms, however, he said he would come to the hotel within 25 minutes to meet me and try to find a solution to the problem. He never turned up , and turned his phone off. I was forced to find another hotel, luckily , we found a room at the ibis styles hotel, ( which is great !). Since returning home I have emailed the porta nigra hotel, and messaged them on Facebook, I have received no returned message, not even an apology. Therefore I urge you to find alternative accommodation as this hotel could turn you away.

This is absolutely the most dishonest place I have ever been. Firstly they state to be open until 19:00, which they are not. Then the rooms are really bad, you can literally hear every word from the neighbouring room. Then the internet is an absolute ly, they use the free vodafone connection available on the street. You need to connect every half an hour and it did not reach the room. We called their evening number 3 times to get this fixed but they never pick up the phone. I really needed internet for work. So we decided to move to a different hotel. We were in the room for 15 minutes. We neatly cancelled the room, payed a cancellation fee through the booking provider of 49 euro. (Which is 80 percent of the total fee) I found this high for a hotel that was NOT providing what they were promising to provide. Then instead of calling us, apologising or explaining they did nothing and OVERCHARGED the credit card. This is stealing! I agreed to a cancellation fee of 49 and not to a cancellation fee and the room and the parking! DO NOT STAY HERE. In short: - overcharges credit card - thin walls - no internet - Does not respect their own opening hours

Last evening I had a room at this hotel my arrival was at 20,40 and as usual in Germany I had a code to get key. Room was small and clean but heaters were completely off and water was cold. It was a nightmare to sleep. In morning I made my claim to reception they told they had a problem. Problem could happen but hotel people cannot leave guests at winter cold. I will never come back or suggest it to colleagues.

Spent one night here with my family on the way back to the uk. Room was large and clean, and there was an extra bed for my son. And the breakfast was good. However ....... - There is no air con, and we stayed here on a hot night & needed the windows open. But it was VERY noisy from traffic and I got no sleep even with ear plugs in. - The curtains don't cover the windows so don't black out light. - The sheets were poor quality. & had been washed so many times it was like sleeping on sandpaper. - The shower room was tiny and cramped with old style decor. - The staff on reception were training someone new & took ages to check us in. They gave us the room key but didn't tell us where the room was. When I went back to ask, they had to look it up. - Wi-fi didn't work. - The lift doesn't access all floors so we had to carry our bags up several flights of narrow stairs. The hotel is well located for the sights & sounds of a Trier - just don't expect to get any sleep particularly if you have to leave the windows open. If you look at my other reviews, you will see I am not a habitual complainer, but this was one of the worst hotel experiences I have ever had.
