Dar Saida Beya

This is a guest house. I spent two nights here and I was truly uncomfortable. The rooms and bath were small and I did not get hot water in the bath even at 7 am in the morning. Breakfast was frugal and the coffee was cold. For some strange reason there is no light in the shower. I fell sick during this part of my journey and they do not have any room service. In my weak state I had to go out to eat. This would not have happened in a Hotel. The sheets, towel and linen were really rough and need to be replaced. The folks who run this guest house may be sweet but can that be a reason to stay here? There are numerous better options in this town for sure.

We stayed here for two nights while staying in Tozeur. This is a most stylish boutique hotel with an attractive rooftop area and a pleasant inner courtyard. Our room was spacious, although it lacked a little in terms of natural light. Comfortable bed, tea, and coffee facilities provided. There is also a safe and small refrigerator. Bathrobes are also supplied. We found the bathroom to be quite small, and our only real negative was the shower where we had difficulties regulating between hot and cold, and the hot water seemed to run out completely unless you were swift. Breakfast was okay, although not particularly substantial. It comprised a small omelette with a small basket of bread and jam, plus yoghurt, coffee, and juice. The location is a good one for central Tozeur with several restaurants within a  five minutes walk.

No place goes further to make you more comfortable and welcome. Generous and beautiful room, bountiful amenities, great bed and shower, very good breakfast- inside or outside- but all surpassed by the friendliest staff, I found, in Tunisia. Their help and recommendations made Tozeur my favorite Tunisian city. Terrific local hammam, restaurant choices and shopping tips in quasi desert oasis combined with a fascinating introduction to date palm plantations via Eden Palms (essential stop). From their website referring the superior room: “This spacious, air-conditioned suite features an LCD TV and a private bathroom with a shower or bath and free toiletries. There is a separate seating area with a sofa” Be aware that this is an intentionally wrong information to persuade the customer for booking the superior room (higher price that the regular room). We were in Chabbia room and it didn’t have a separate seating area, nor a sofa but 2 hard and uncomfortable wood chairs. I asked the person in the desk and he just gave me a poor explanation about every room being different but the truth is that I went for the superior room trusting the description in their website. In addiction, the quality of the mattress is very low and the bed sheets are from a rigid and thick material, making it not comfortable. The staff smokes in the lobby and there is a permanent unpleasant smell every time you walk in. The breakfast is varied although the pastry was too hard. As the pros, it is located in a central location and still is quiet at night. Not my first option if I ever come back to Tozeur.
