Grand Hotel and Apartments Townsville
4.2/5100 Reviews
We had a couple of nights in Townsville and this hotel was a good location to easily walk around the sites of the city. We arrived early to check in, rooms not ready but were happy to store our luggage while we went out for lunch. Staff very pleasant at check in - but as seems the norm questions asked about if it was our first time in Townsville (and it was) and if we needed directions, information etc. Rooms clean & tidy, sufficient toiletries, view from tiny balcony over side street. Lounge chair very low to ground and very uncomfortable. Bed very comfortable. Wifi very fast. Hotel located within walking distance of most of the sites of Townsville. No breakfast supplied but restaurants in close proximity.
Mercure Townsville

The Mercure Townsville is a very comfortable hotel. The rooms are exactly what you'd expect at Mercure, comfy beds, all the necessities. The service is impeccable, and the food is to die for. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay... for the most part. The one downside for us, was the fact that at all hours of the day, sun up to sunset, the manager in place at this hotel deems it acceptable to run Sky News on every TV set around the bar and restaurant. Politics in public spaces is never a good idea. Extreme political bias in public spaces, is downright uncomfortable. Every night we sat there at dinner whilst the typical Sky News opinion piece headlines flashed all over the multiple TV screens throughout what is supposed to be a relaxing space. These headlines were loaded with such extreme (and I would go so far as to say hateful) political bias, that I do not even feel comfortable writing them here, or attaching pictures, for fear that my review may get rejected for the use of the words contained in them. Regardless of your own political standings, I’m sure that the vast majority of reasonable people can agree with me when I say that it is never appropriate to broadcast such a politically charged news station in what is supposed to be an all-inclusive, welcoming space. And let’s not conflate fact as opinion here, it IS an extremely biased, politically charged station, who’s owner is the subject of a royal commission campaign, and who has only very recently been taken to court in the U.S and forced to concede that his media empire knowingly lies. I’m not sure what management is trying to achieve by the all day broadcast of such a controversial station, but it has most definitely resulted in the loss of my own, and my family’s business. Very disappointing, as we otherwise would have been regulars. This has nothing to do with being a “left wing snowflake”. It has nothing to do with being “woke”. This has to do with wanting to go away on holiday and leave politics at home where it belongs. Now, to be fair, we did approach the manager about this situation before coming to the decision that we will not return. The response was entirely unacceptable and in our view, unprofessional. He told us that he did change the station after our last visit, but that the regulars at the hotel asked for it to be turned back onto Sky News, and so he did. So on our next visit to the hotel, there it was again. We approached the manager again regarding this, and his response to us was that “he can’t win”. He then told us that he will make a note to ensure the channel is changed when we visit. We found this utterly demeaning, condescending and, to be frank, insulting. He doubled down on the previous reasoning that the regulars ask for Sky News because, in his own words, “It is the most informative”. Sir, there is nothing informative about the headlines we witnessed on this station during our multiple visits. It is not news, it is political “discussion” loaded with extreme bias
The Dalgety Apartments

We stayed here while on a family trip for 5 nights. The lift in the car park wasn’t working the whole time we were there. The apartment was dirty, the couch was covered in stains, the carpet was dirty and needed replacing. All of the surfaces in the apartment were caked in dust. The shower in one of the bathrooms was broken, we reported this and were told someone would be right up to look at it, no one ever came. We needed two single beds in one room and had to call several times to confirm this, on the first call we were told that they didn’t have time to go and check, the second call we were told there was and when we called to confirm the last time we were told there actually wasn’t and that we would need to organise a fold out bed to be brought in by an outside company. There were pubes in the freezer, empty soft drink bottles in the cupboard. No coat hangers to hang up your clothes. No cleaning products in the apartment. We had to ask for dishwashing liquid so we could do our dishes. The shower/bath gel in the bathrooms was so thin that it seemed like someone had just refilled the bottles with water. Don’t waste your money by bothering to stay here.
Hotel Grand Chancellor Townsville

We completed a 2 night stay 8th-10th February 2023 and it was the absolute worst! We were moved 4x on the same floor within 2hrs or less of checking in. The attitude from the receptionist was unacceptable. Strongly believe after so many moves, an upgrade offer would have been nice. However, the receptionist made us feel as if we were an inconvenience even though it was the hotel’s fault for having faulty air-conditioning. None of the four rooms were getting cold. We were then offered 2 pedestal fans as if we were staying in a back packers accommodation. The receptionist who “helped” us was very rude. We had organised a late check out for 12pm. On the day of checking out, house keeping and the same receptionist with the attitude, kept coming to disturb us in the room alerting us that it was past check out. This kept happening right until 11:40am. Wifi does not work so my husband had to hot spot from his phone to the tv to access Netflix and Fox channels. Only good thing was room service. Our balcony was inaccessible due to rubble and water constantly coming from the construction work on the higher floors. Did notice a chuck of concrete from the balcony edge missing which did not look safe at all. Overall experience has definitely left a bad impression. Upon check out, manager email was requested and formal complaint is being sent. Do appreciate their small token of an apology by discounting room service bill by 20% for the such rudeness and incompetence of housekeeping and that particular receptionist. Customer service is an absolute must for us and this hotel failed miserably. Definitely take your money elsewhere.
Banjo Paterson Motor Inn

Stayed two night at this motel. The motel was a clean and tidy. The bed was comfortable. The room was self contained with a kitchenette. Even though it is on a main road there was no noise either from the road or the guest at the hotel. Breakfast was ordered when we arrived and a continental breakfast was delivered each afternoon to the room which was great as we had a 6.00am flight on the last morning and was able to have breakfast before leaving. We frequently visit family in Townville and stay at a different location but in future we will be staying at Banjo Paterson Motor Inn.
Vale Hotel

Both my daughter and I came from Cairns and were stranded in Townsville during the floods and we stayed at the Vale Hotel for 3 nights. We were on the first floor which was great considering the rising flood waters not far from us. the staff were friendly, accommodating and kept us in the loop regarding what was happening. Having access to the bistro at the hotel was a huge benefit due to roads to supermarkets and food outlets being cut off. We were supplied with clean and dry towels and other linen even though there were problems with the volume of guests and the amount of work the room attendants had to do. The Vale is quiet, safe and very close to Stockland's Shopping Centre, MacDonald's and a range of restaurants and cafes. the Vale Hotel was definitely the right choice under these extreme circumstances and I wish to acknowledge the incredible service, value and security afforded to us and I will make this my #1 choice during future visits to Townsville.
